Position Overview

Alta Planning + Design is in search of a Senior Transportation Planner to contribute to our dynamic team. This role is ideal for individuals who are passionate about promoting active, multimodal, and sustainable transportation solutions while seeking to advance their career in the field of transportation planning.

Key Responsibilities

The selected candidate will engage in a variety of planning initiatives, including:

  • Development of active transportation strategies
  • Conducting corridor and safety studies
  • Facilitating mobility hub assessments
  • Leading trail development projects

As a Senior Transportation Planner, you will also have the opportunity to act as an Assistant Project Manager, overseeing project tasks and supporting project management activities such as budgeting, scheduling, and liaising with subconsultants.

Qualifications

To be considered for this position, candidates should possess:

  • A minimum of four years of experience in a consulting or public sector environment
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Planning or a related discipline
  • Proficiency in GIS and experience with mapping and analysis
  • Strong quantitative analysis skills, with the ability to interpret data for informed decision-making
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Proficiency in software tools such as MS Office Suite, Adobe Creative Suite, and ArcGIS
  • Experience with project management tools and resource planning
  • The ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities effectively
  • Leadership skills to guide team members and manage expectations
  • A solid understanding of planning processes and project management principles
  • Self-motivation and the ability to work independently

Additional preferred qualifications include:

  • A Master’s Degree in Urban Planning or a related field
  • Expertise in New Mobility concepts
  • Experience managing large-scale projects for diverse clients
  • Proven track record of presenting at industry conferences
  • Familiarity with Deltek Vision and spatial analysis tools
  • Active involvement in professional associations
  • AICP Certification
