Opportunity for a Psychiatrist at the Durham VA Health Care System

The Durham VA Health Care System is seeking a dedicated Psychiatrist to provide essential mental health services in either Durham or Raleigh. In this role, you will be instrumental in conducting psychiatric assessments, ongoing care, and managing medication for our patients.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee a variety of clinical, consultative, educational, and administrative functions related to outpatient mental health care.
  • Diagnose a broad spectrum of mental health conditions, including but not limited to post-traumatic stress disorder, traumatic brain injury, substance use disorders, and mood and anxiety disorders.
  • Work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team to manage an outpatient caseload effectively.

Clinical Duties:

  • Prioritize the clinical management of assigned patients.
  • Foster strong relationships with team members to meet patient needs.
  • Develop and implement treatment plans while monitoring patient progress.
  • Apply approved care standards, including medication management and therapeutic interventions.
  • Coordinate with healthcare resources to ensure seamless continuity of care.
  • Stay informed about the latest advancements and protocols in patient care.
  • Document findings, assessments, and care plans during patient interactions.
  • Order relevant tests and incorporate results into clinical decision-making.
  • Provide coverage during colleagues' absences.
  • Fulfill additional clinical responsibilities as required.

Administrative and Educational Duties:

  • Engage in patient and family health education initiatives.
  • Participate in professional conferences and committee meetings.
  • Support staff development through training and educational opportunities.
  • Address patient inquiries regarding their care and treatment.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of trends in patient management.
  • Supervise and mentor medical trainees.
  • Complete assigned administrative and educational tasks.
