Exciting Opportunity for a Psychiatrist at the Durham VA Health Care System
The Durham VA Health Care System is seeking a dedicated Psychiatrist to provide comprehensive mental health services in either Durham or Raleigh. In this role, you will be instrumental in conducting psychiatric assessments, ongoing care, and managing medication for our patients.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct clinical evaluations and provide consultative services for mental health outpatients.
- Diagnose a variety of mental health conditions, including post-traumatic stress disorder, traumatic brain injury, substance use disorders, and mood disorders.
- Work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team to manage an outpatient caseload.
Clinical Duties:
- Focus on the clinical oversight of assigned patients.
- Establish and maintain effective relationships with team members to address patient needs.
- Develop and implement treatment plans while monitoring patient progress.
- Adhere to established standards of care, including medication management and therapeutic interventions.
- Coordinate with healthcare resources to ensure seamless patient care.
- Stay informed on current trends and best practices in psychiatric care.
- Document findings, treatment plans, and patient interactions thoroughly.
- Order and interpret necessary diagnostic tests to inform clinical decisions.
- Provide coverage for colleagues during absences.
- Complete additional clinical responsibilities as assigned.
Administrative and Educational Responsibilities:
- Engage in patient and family education regarding mental health care.
- Participate in professional conferences and committee meetings.
- Support staff development through training and educational initiatives.
- Address patient inquiries regarding their care and treatment options.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of mental health management practices.
- Supervise and mentor medical trainees.
- Fulfill administrative and educational tasks as required.
