Company Overview
The City and County of San Francisco is dedicated to enhancing the well-being of its community through comprehensive Behavioral Health Services (BHS). Our Managed Care division is expanding its offerings, including the establishment of a Mental Health Services Center aimed at improving access to essential psychiatric care.
Position Summary
The Supervising Psychiatrist will allocate 10-30% of their time to clinical duties, while dedicating 70-90% to leadership responsibilities as the Deputy Medical Director. Key responsibilities include:
- Facilitating the planning and execution of initiatives to broaden access to low-threshold psychiatric services.
- Engaging with the BHS Deputy Medical Director group, reporting directly to the Co-Chief Medical Officers.
- Ensuring compliance with state regulatory standards and contractual obligations under the Mental Health Plan and Drug Medi-Cal Organized Delivery System.
- Staying informed on Federal, State, and Local regulations impacting clinical care, including the Mental Health Services Act and Medi-Cal.
- Collaborating with leadership across Managed Care, OCC, Utilization Management, and Quality Management to provide strategic direction.
- Offering medical consultation and oversight across various divisions.
- Exhibiting expertise in Substance Use Disorder and Mental Health best practices, alongside strong analytical and decision-making skills.
- Integrating health equity goals into all clinical initiatives and service development.
- Maintaining clinical practice with underserved populations, particularly within the Mental Health Service Center.
- Supervising medical personnel, including the UM Medical Director and Nurse Practitioners.
- Performing additional duties as required.
Qualifications
Applicants must possess:
- A valid medical license from the Medical Board of California or the Osteopathic Medical Board of California.
- A valid DEA license.
- Completion of an accredited residency program in a psychiatric specialty (Board Eligible).
- A minimum of five years of post-residency experience as a practicing psychiatrist; Board Certification may substitute for two years of experience.
Desirable Attributes
Consideration may be given to candidates with:
- Board eligibility or certification in Addiction Medicine or Addiction Psychiatry.
- Personal experience and knowledge gained through direct involvement with diverse communities.
