Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Chief Financial Officer to join our dynamic team at the Children's Museum of Denver Inc. As a key member of our Museum Leadership Team, you will play a critical role in shaping the financial future of our organization.

About the Role

The Chief Financial Officer will be responsible for leading all financial planning functions, including budgeting, reporting, accounting, forecasting, business planning, financial policies, information technology, risk management, and venue sales. This individual will develop and maintain accurate and timely financial reports for both external and internal use, ensuring compliance with GAAP and other regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the annual operating and capital budget process, collaborating with all departments, museum leadership team, and the Board of Directors on budget inputs and results.
  • Maintain accurate and timely reporting of Museum financial condition and results for both external and internal use.
  • Establish and ensure compliance with internal controls, which safeguard the assets of the Museum and contribute to accurate reporting.
  • Supervise the daily operation of the accounting processes, including revenue accounting, accounts payable, payroll, and cash flow management.
  • Lead the monthly operating and capital forecast and advise museum leadership team and the Board of Directors on strengths, opportunities, and challenges.
  • Develop and maintain written accounting policies and procedures.
  • Coordinate and manage external audits for financial reporting, Scientific and Cultural Facilities District, and single audit (if applicable).
  • Provide financial information, tracking, and reports as needed for grant applications and reports.
  • Oversee semi-monthly payroll.
  • Work with Human Resources to ensure benefits seamlessly align with payroll.
  • Work with department heads to monitor budget, expenses, and revenues.
  • Lead long-term and strategic financial planning, goals, and implementation.
  • Advise leadership on financial data, trends, and discoveries to ensure sound planning decisions are made.
  • Ensure all annual tax forms, worker's compensation forms, tangible tax forms, and other governmental documents are completed in conjunction with payroll provider and audit firm.
  • Collaborate with the Museum's investment manager and treasury relationships to improve the Museum's investment income while adhering to the Museum's investment policy to safeguard reserves.
  • Perform annual inventory on gift shop and café and make all necessary inventory adjustments.
  • Oversee fixed assets and maintain inventory control system.
  • Serve as staff liaison to Board Treasurer, Finance Committee, and 401K Investment Committee.
  • Ensure continuous improvements to all accounting systems and processes.
Requirements
  • Master's or Bachelor's degree in Finance or Accounting, 6+ years' experience.
  • Ability to work with a wide variety of people.
  • Work well under time constraints.
  • Demonstrated organizational, problem-solving, and task management skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, verbal and written.
  • Excellent PC computer skills, including MS Office, Outlook, Excel, Word/Financial Software.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to represent the Museum in a professional manner.
  • Ability to work effectively with people at all levels.
  • Ability to work successfully as part of a team, with minimal supervision, and with multiple priorities.
  • Strong commitment to the Museum's mission, vision, and values of diversity, equity, access, and inclusion.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to load, unload, and set up materials and equipment (up to 50 lbs).
  • Frequently move, transport, position equipment up to 50 pounds across campus for various Museum operation's needs.
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position for extended periods of time indoors and outdoors (up to 6 hours).
  • Effectively operate a two-way radio to frequently communicate and exchange information with staff.
  • Operate a computer and other office equipment.
  • Frequently communicate with staff or guests with daily inquiries and must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
Compensation

$130,000 - $141,500 annual salary, comprehensive benefits package, and a supportive, rewarding, and FUN work environment.
