About the Role

Tenderloin Neighborhood Development Corporation is seeking a highly experienced and visionary Chief Executive Officer to lead our organization through a period of strategic growth and transformation. As a key member of our leadership team, you will be responsible for driving our mission to provide affordable housing and community development services to the underserved communities in San Francisco.

Key Responsibilities
  • Organizational Leadership & Strategy
    • Provide executive leadership and strategic direction to the organization, in collaboration with the Board of Directors.
    • Develop and implement a comprehensive strategic plan to achieve our mission and goals.
    • Lead the development and implementation of policies, procedures, and budgets that support our mission.
  • Financial Management
    • Oversee the financial health and sustainability of the organization, including budgeting, financial reporting, and risk management.
    • Develop and implement financial models to assess performance and inform strategic decisions.
    • Work with the Chief Financial Officer to develop and implement financial strategies to achieve our goals.
  • Organizational Culture
    • Develop and implement a culture of collaboration, innovation, and accountability within the organization.
    • Recruit, develop, and retain high-performing staff, including the Senior Management Team.
    • Lead the development and implementation of diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives to promote a culture of belonging and respect.
  • Affordable Housing Development/Portfolio Management
    • Provide executive leadership and oversight of affordable housing development and portfolio management initiatives.
    • Work with the Chief Operating Officer and Chief Portfolio Officer to develop and implement strategies to achieve our affordable housing goals.
    • Oversee the development and implementation of financial structuring, re-financing, and tax credit strategies to support our affordable housing initiatives.
  • Fundraising / Resource Development
    • Develop and implement a comprehensive fundraising strategy to achieve our revenue goals.
    • Work with the Chief Fund Development Officer to develop and implement a donor relations strategy to build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders.
    • Develop and implement a grant writing strategy to secure funding from government agencies, foundations, and other sources.
  • External Relations and Advocacy
    • Develop and implement a comprehensive external relations and advocacy strategy to promote our mission and goals.
    • Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including government officials, community leaders, and business partners.
    • Develop and implement a communications strategy to promote our mission and goals to the public and media.
Requirements
  • Education
    • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or equivalent demonstrated professional experience.
    • Masters degree in public administration, city and regional planning, business administration, or a related field is preferred but not required.
  • Qualifications/Experience
    • Minimum of five to seven years of experience as an Executive Director, CEO, or senior leader of a non-profit organization with responsibility for financial health and sustainability, P&L management, and budget authority experience.
    • Significant leadership experience in non-profit or for-profit affordable housing, public agency, community, and/or real-estate development and affordable housing service and programs in Northern California.
    • Experience working with, in partnership, and providing executive officer leadership to a board of directors, including leading strategic planning and implementation.
    • Experience guiding an organization through a time of cultural transformation, organizational development, and change management.
    • Experience in partnering with an organization's chief fund development officer in setting fund development strategy and executing fundraising goals.
    • Strong communication skills, professional representation, stakeholder relationship management, negotiation, persuasiveness, listening, and diplomacy skills.
    • Understanding of major metropolitan area government and political dynamics, including prior experience with San Francisco's government processes and politics.

    • Ability to grow and scale a 450-person organization with net assets of $225M, over $1B of real estate assets, and 14 development projects in the pipeline.

What We Offer

An annual salary ranging from $330,000 to $350,000, commensurate with experience, plus a comprehensive benefits package.
