JOB SUMMARY:


The Engineering Manager oversees the daily operations and strategic objectives of Select Industries Corp within the engineering sector. This role includes managing engineering functions, implementing engineering goals, and enhancing product development processes involving the engineering team.

Directs and supervises the engineering department's activities.

Key Performance Objectives:
Oversee new product design and development projects within the engineering team.
Ensure technical integrity for department projects.
Support the enhancement and maintenance of existing products.
Foster technical and leadership development among team members.
Represent engineering needs at the executive level.
Contribute to the corporation's strategic planning initiatives.
Build collaborative relationships with engineering counterparts at client organizations.
Establish and maintain engineering performance metrics for accountability and reporting.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Interpersonal Responsibilities:

Engage regularly with the CEO, President, Quality Manager, Manufacturing Manager, Human Resources Manager, and Controller to discuss objectives, challenges, and ongoing projects.

Provide training and coaching to employees on equipment, software, standards, and best practices related to product design and support.
3.

Communicate with team members regarding product development and maintenance initiatives.
4.

Maintain regular communication with clients to support product development or enhancement projects.

Operational Responsibilities:


Review and approve final engineering drawings or modifications to ensure compliance with design specifications.

Assess proposals or plans to determine timelines, budget constraints, project procedures, staffing needs, and resource allocation.

Develop work plans and staffing strategies for each project phase and coordinate recruitment or assignment of personnel.
Collaborate with the engineering team to outline work plans and assign roles and responsibilities.
Direct and coordinate project personnel activities to ensure timely progress within budget constraints.
Provide technical guidance and resolve issues in collaboration with the project team.
Ensure effective and timely corrective actions regarding non-conforming materials through participation in review processes.
Interface with clients' technical representatives to address technical concerns.
Assist the Sales team with estimates and proposals, including engineering details and development timelines when requested.
Support the Sales team with technical assistance during quote reviews, sales presentations, and client visits.
Continuously communicate relevant corporate information regarding engineering operations as needed.

Organizational Responsibilities:


Act as a key member of the leadership team, collaborating with the General Manager and other executives.

Participate in strategic planning efforts.
Foster a culture of performance, efficiency, and continuous improvement.

Serve as a positive change agent for organizational culture.
Oversee the development and maintenance of engineering drawings for Select products.
Establish, maintain, and enhance engineering performance metrics.

Provide data and insights to the leadership team.
Ensure compliance with regulations and procedures, including IAFT 16949, and maintain adherence to engineering department protocols.
Possess knowledge and experience in ISO AS9001 and ISO 13485 standards.
Continuously assess the talent pool and overall capabilities of the department.
Conduct performance evaluations for direct reports.

Identify training needs, initiate professional development opportunities, and recommend effective action plans.

Design and implement training programs aimed at enhancing employees' job-related knowledge and skills for superior performance.


Supervisory Responsibilities:
Recruit, interview, hire, and train new engineering personnel.
Oversee daily departmental workflows.
Provide timely and constructive performance evaluations.

Qualifications and Requirements:
A minimum of 5 years in a senior mechanical engineering role with supervisory or leadership responsibilities.
Bachelor's degree in mechanical, aerospace engineering, or a related field.
Preferred experience in aerospace and automotive industries.

Exceptional communication skills and a strong foundation in quality science to effectively engage with customer engineering, quality, and purchasing contacts, as well as internal teams and suppliers.
