Environmental Health and Safety Manager

Position Overview:

The Environmental Health and Safety Manager is responsible for overseeing safety protocols, environmental regulations, and maintaining strong relationships with relevant Federal, State, and local authorities across various sites. This role involves the implementation of comprehensive Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) initiatives aimed at safeguarding employees and minimizing organizational risks in collaboration with local management.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Develops and enforces safety policies and procedures to foster a secure work environment. Maintains accurate OSHA logs, EHS documentation, and reporting for both internal and external stakeholders.

2. Directs environmental compliance and sustainability efforts at the plant level, addressing hazardous waste management, air quality, water usage, and the acquisition and upkeep of necessary permits, often in collaboration with internal experts and external advisors.

3. Engages with regulatory bodies to ensure compliance, address issues, and cultivate a collaborative working relationship.

4. Identifies and reports potential regulatory violations, implementing corrective actions as necessary.

5. Conducts regular safety and environmental assessments and audits in operational areas, possessing the expertise to take immediate corrective measures when required.

6. Proposes and executes EHS-related capital projects for the facilities under management.

7. Analyzes workplace accidents and environmental incidents through root cause analysis, recommending policies and procedures to rectify issues and avert future occurrences.

8. May oversee the work of other team members.

9. Collaborates with Global Security to deploy programs and technologies that safeguard personnel and assets.

10. Undertakes additional responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications:

Extensive knowledge of relevant EHS regulations to ensure compliance with governmental agencies (e.g., OSHA, EPA, DNR) and safety standards.

Proficient understanding of safety practices within a manufacturing context, including industrial hygiene, ergonomics, machinery safety, training for industrial vehicles, and personal protective equipment.

Demonstrated experience in executing extensive safety, environmental, and sustainability initiatives.

Strong analytical skills to identify and resolve issues, gather data, establish facts, and make informed decisions.

Ability to interpret technical information in various formats.

Excellent verbal and written communication abilities, along with proficiency in data analysis and reporting tools.

Capacity to work independently and manage projects to completion while adhering to deadlines.

Fluency in English and the primary language relevant to the area of responsibility.

Education:

Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or related scientific fields.

Experience:

A minimum of 5 years of experience in EHS, preferably within a manufacturing setting.
