Environmental Health and Safety Manager
Position Overview:
The Environmental Health and Safety Manager is responsible for overseeing safety protocols, environmental regulations, and fostering relationships with relevant Federal, State, and local authorities across various sites. This role is crucial in executing Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) initiatives that safeguard personnel and mitigate risks to the organization, in collaboration with local management.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Develops and enforces safety regulations, policies, and programs to cultivate a secure working environment. Maintains records of OSHA logs, EHS documentation, and reporting for both internal and external stakeholders.
2. Directs all plant-level environmental compliance and sustainability efforts, including hazardous waste management, air quality, water usage, and the acquisition and maintenance of necessary permits, working closely with internal experts and external advisors.
3. Engages with regulatory bodies to ensure compliance, address issues, and maintain a collaborative relationship.
4. Identifies and reports potential violations, implementing corrective actions as necessary.
5. Conducts regular safety and environmental audits and inspections in the field, equipped with the expertise to take immediate corrective measures when required.
6. Proposes and executes EHS-related capital projects for the facilities under management.
7. Analyzes workplace accidents and environmental incidents through root cause analysis, recommending policies and procedures to rectify issues and prevent recurrence.
8. May oversee the work of other personnel.
9. Collaborates with Global Security to implement strategies and technologies that ensure the safety of employees and company assets.
10. Performs additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Extensive knowledge of relevant EHS regulations to ensure compliance with governmental agencies (e.g., OSHA, EPA, DNR) and safety standards.
In-depth understanding of safety practices in manufacturing settings, including industrial hygiene, ergonomics, machinery safety, and personal protective equipment.
Proven experience in executing comprehensive safety, environmental, and sustainability initiatives.
Strong analytical skills to identify and define problems, gather data, and draw sound conclusions.
Ability to interpret technical documentation in various formats.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, along with proficiency in data analysis and reporting tools.
Capability to work independently, managing projects to completion while adhering to deadlines.
Fluency in English and the primary language relevant to the area of responsibility.
Education:
Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or related scientific fields.
Experience:
A minimum of 5 years of experience in EHS, preferably within a manufacturing context.
