Department Role
The Bureau of Environmental Planning and Analysis (BEPA) plays a crucial role in providing expertise on policies, planning, and environmental assessments that align with DEP's Strategic Plan and Capital Program. BEPA addresses policy matters at various governmental levels, focusing on stormwater management, water conservation, and environmental quality.
Job Responsibilities
BEPA is seeking an Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Specialist to oversee compliance with environmental health and safety regulations and internal policies. The selected candidate will:
- Coordinate a comprehensive Employee Safety and Health Program across the Bureau.
- Develop and implement policies and procedures that promote a robust EHS culture.
- Address and investigate employee safety concerns effectively.
- Conduct occupational safety investigations, facility audits, and job hazard analyses.
- Prepare and review reports, providing actionable recommendations for future improvements.
- Offer technical guidance to staff to enhance workplace safety and health.
- Interpret and apply OSHA/PESH regulations and other relevant EHS standards.
- Serve as Site Safety Officer for special projects.
- Establish procedures to fulfill DEP EHS objectives.
- Act as a resource for developing safety and health training programs.
- Organize and facilitate relevant training sessions.
- Manage and track employee training related to professional development and EHS.
- Compile Bureau metrics and maintain data in relevant IT systems.
- Review contractor safety records and conduct field assessments to ensure compliance.
Qualifications
Candidates must meet one of the following educational and experience criteria:
- A bachelor's degree with 30 credits in physical or biological sciences and two years of relevant experience.
- An associate degree with 15 credits in physical or biological sciences and four years of relevant experience.
- Equivalent education and experience, ensuring at least 60 college credits, including 15 in the sciences, and two years as a public health sanitarian.
