Key Responsibilities of the Certified Medication Aide

The Certified Medication Aide (CMA) plays a crucial role in ensuring the safe and effective administration of medications to residents. The primary duties include:

  1. Administering or assisting with the administration of medications in accordance with physician orders and regulatory standards.
  2. Providing compassionate physical and emotional support to residents, ensuring their dignity and individuality are upheld.
  3. Maintaining accurate documentation of medication administration and conducting thorough shift reports.
  4. Ensuring the security of medication supplies and conducting necessary counts as per company protocols.
  5. Assisting residents with daily living activities, including personal hygiene, mobility, and nutrition.
  6. Collaborating effectively with team members and maintaining professionalism in all interactions.
  7. Reporting any concerns regarding resident safety or well-being to appropriate staff members.
  8. Utilizing safe practices when assisting residents with mobility and other needs.
  9. Monitoring and reporting changes in residents' health status to nursing staff.
  10. Responding to emergencies with promptness and calmness, ensuring proper communication with the nursing team.
  11. Adhering to established safety and infection control procedures.
  12. Maintaining cleanliness and safety standards within residents' living spaces.

Additional Responsibilities

In addition to core duties, the CMA may also:

  • Support resident engagement activities and promote a vibrant community atmosphere.
  • Assist with light housekeeping and laundry tasks as needed.
  • Facilitate transportation and mobility for residents within the facility.
  • Participate in team meetings and training sessions to enhance skills and knowledge.

Qualifications and Skills Required

  • Completion of state-mandated training and certification for medication aides.
  • Proficiency in English, both written and verbal.
  • Physical capability to perform required tasks, including lifting and moving equipment.
  • Successful completion of background checks and drug screenings as required.
  • Prior experience in assisted living or similar environments is preferred.
