About the Role

Mele Associates, Inc. is seeking an experienced and accomplished professional to serve as a Senior Vice President of Federal Government Contracts. This key leadership position will report directly to the Chief Operating Officer (COO) and will be responsible for assisting in the planning, coordination, and oversight of the company's federal government contracts and business development activities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist the COO in developing and implementing strategies to drive business growth and improve operational efficiency.
  • Oversee the performance of federal government contracts, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and policies.
  • Collaborate with senior executive management to ensure the development and implementation of high-quality operations and systems in business development efforts.
  • Analyze company operations to identify areas for improvement and implement process enhancements to increase productivity and business development capabilities.
  • Provide guidance and support to managers on work processes, supplies, and staff-related issues, including employee hirings and terminations.
  • Communicate and advise the COO on the strategic direction of the company's government contracts division.
  • Collaborate with executive leadership and other internal stakeholders to develop and meet company goals, providing expertise and guidance on projects and systems.
  • Recommend and implement new processes, technologies, and systems to improve and streamline organizational processes and resource utilization.
  • Ensure that departmental decisions and plans align with the organization's business plan and vision.
  • Establish, communicate, and implement operations-related policies, practices, standards, and security measures to ensure effective and consistent support and execution.
  • Oversee compliance with relevant regulations and policies.
  • Facilitate leadership development within the company.
  • Recruit, interview, hire, and train management-level staff when necessary.
  • Provide constructive and timely performance evaluations.
  • Be responsible for discipline and termination of employees in accordance with company policy when necessary.
  • Present periodic performance reports and metrics to the COO and other leadership.
  • Identify training needs and ensure proper training is developed and provided.
Requirements
  • History of exceptional experience in the federal government contracts industry, established track record in business development, and understanding of performance of federal government contracts.
  • Must possess business acumen and strong supervisory, management, and leadership skills.
  • Demonstrated team and relationship builder and collaborator.
  • Must work at Mele's headquarters office in Rockville, MD (at the present time, in a required hybrid work environment with three days in the office and two days working from home).
  • Extensive knowledge of the principles, procedures, laws, regulations, policies, and best practices in the government contracts industry.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Logistics, Engineering, or other industry-related field required; MBA preferred.
  • At least 10 years of industry-related experience, including three years in upper management required.
