Position Summary:
Apex is in search of an Associate Counsel to collaborate with our legal team in delivering comprehensive legal services to internal stakeholders related to the acquisition, development, financing, and construction of utility-scale renewable energy initiatives. Under the guidance of the General Counsel, the Associate Counsel will oversee a variety of project and corporate legal matters to bolster the Company's mission of developing, constructing, owning, and operating renewable energy projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide legal guidance and strategic counsel regarding the development of projects for financing, construction, and operational phases.
  • Lead and manage local, state, and federal permitting processes for energy projects.
  • Negotiate and execute agreements with governmental agencies concerning tax matters, infrastructure improvements, and environmental considerations.
  • Proactively identify potential issues and assess risks with a strategic mindset.
  • Effectively manage permit appeals and other legal proceedings related to project development.
  • Build and maintain relationships with external legal counsel while ensuring efficient use of resources.
  • Work full-time within the Legal Department, with occasional travel required.

Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A Juris Doctor degree from an accredited institution.
  • 2-8 years of experience in regulatory, litigation, land-use, or environmental law within a prestigious law firm or corporate legal department.
  • Experience in permitting, including drafting and defending permit applications and negotiating complex contracts.
  • Proficiency in coordinating regulatory processes and procedures.
  • The ability to devise practical solutions to intricate legal and business challenges.
  • Strong organizational skills to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • A high level of integrity and professionalism in handling confidential information.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a collaborative approach to teamwork.
  • Admission to practice law in any U.S. jurisdiction.

Work Environment:
This position is primarily office-based, with flexible work arrangements available as business needs allow.
