Position Summary:
Apex Clean Energy is in search of an Associate Counsel to collaborate with our legal team in delivering comprehensive legal services to our internal stakeholders. This role will focus on the acquisition, development, financing, and construction of large-scale renewable energy initiatives. Under the guidance of the General Counsel, the Associate Counsel will oversee a range of project and corporate legal matters to support the company’s mission of developing, constructing, owning, and operating renewable energy projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide legal guidance and strategic insights regarding the development of projects related to financing, construction, and operational phases.
  • Lead and facilitate local, state, and federal permitting processes for energy initiatives.
  • Negotiate and execute agreements with governmental entities on matters such as taxation, infrastructure improvements, and environmental considerations.
  • Proactively identify potential legal issues and assess risks strategically.
  • Manage permit appeals and other legal proceedings related to project development efficiently.
  • Build and maintain relationships with external legal counsel while ensuring a balance between cost-effectiveness and quality of service.
  • Work full-time within the Legal Department with occasional travel requirements.

Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:

  • A Juris Doctor degree from an accredited institution.
  • 2-8 years of experience in regulatory, litigation, land-use, or environmental law, preferably within a top-tier law firm or corporate legal department.
  • Experience in permitting processes, including drafting and defending permit applications and negotiating complex contracts.
  • Ability to navigate regulatory frameworks and procedures effectively.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with a practical approach to complex legal and business challenges.
  • Excellent organizational skills to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated integrity and professionalism in handling sensitive information.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a collaborative mindset.
  • Licensed to practice law in any U.S. jurisdiction.

Work Environment:
This position primarily operates during standard office hours in a professional office setting, with flexible work arrangements available when business operations allow.
