Position: Energy Project Engineer

The Energy Project Engineer will deliver technical expertise in mechanical, electrical, civil, structural, systems, or controls engineering throughout various stages of Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) and/or Photovoltaic (PV) project design, procurement, and execution, utilizing internal or external specialists as necessary. This role will support critical phases of significant projects, including business development, site development, permitting assistance (air, water, state, local, etc.), scope formulation, RFP preparation and assessment, major contract negotiations (equipment, engineering, or EPC), construction oversight, and commissioning activities, ultimately transitioning to commercial operation. This position reports directly to the VP of EPC.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assess scope documents to ensure compliance with technical specifications and stakeholder requirements.
  • Examine detailed engineering drawings to ensure adherence to technical scope and construction standards in field implementation.
  • Manage Requests for Information (RFIs), submittals, change orders, invoices, and related documentation.
  • Conduct and/or review engineering calculations, analyses, research, and designs.
  • Provide cost assessments and develop recommendations based on calculations (e.g., costs for equipment upgrades) for management review.
  • Perform system inspections to confirm installations align with design specifications and contract requirements, identify non-compliance issues, and monitor corrective actions.
  • Execute other related duties and special projects as assigned.

Required Skills:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, Teams); experience with Procore is a plus.
  • Strong communication skills across various levels of technical understanding—both written and verbal.
  • Ability to interpret and follow design drawings and construction plans.
  • Capacity to coordinate the resolution of technical challenges and implement changes effectively.
  • Familiarity with applicable laws and codes governing project design and construction.
  • Understanding of engineering phases, including scope creation, detailed design, engineering execution, field engineering, and start-up support.

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Electrical, Systems, Controls preferred).
  • Minimum of 2 years of industry experience in construction or engineering (renewables preferred).
  • FE or PE license is preferred.

Travel & Time Commitment:

  • Approximately 30% of time will involve travel; this will vary based on project status.
  • Travel includes solo site visits.
  • Limited travel for industry conferences and company events is expected.
  • This is a full-time, exempt salaried position with standard office hours from 8:30 AM – 5:30 PM EST. Project demands may require work outside of these hours.
