About the Permian Basin

Covering an area comparable to Kansas, the Permian Basin, located in West Texas and Southeastern New Mexico, is the most productive oil and gas region in the United States and a key driver of the nation's energy resurgence. It accounts for approximately 40% of the country's oil and 15% of its gas production, playing a vital role in establishing the U.S. as a top energy exporter.

As a significant asset for ExxonMobil, the Basin contributed around 40% of the Corporation's net oil and gas output in the U.S. in 2021, with promising growth prospects. Production exceeded 550,000 barrels per day in 2022 and is projected to surpass 800,000 barrels per day in the near future. Many of these resources are transported to ExxonMobil's facilities along the Gulf of Mexico, where they are converted into high-value products such as jet fuel and lubricants. Notably, the Permian Basin business unit was the first within ExxonMobil to implement a plan for achieving net zero Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions in operated assets by 2030, aligning with the Corporation's broader commitment to net zero by 2050.

ExxonMobil's Unconventional business line employs around 800 individuals in Midland, Odessa, Carlsbad, and nearby areas, all of which provide convenient access to national parks and exceptional outdoor recreational activities. Role Overview
  • The Maintenance Systems Specialist is expected to possess a solid understanding of safety, health, and environmental regulations (SHE). This role involves executing all material functions to ensure that equipment and spare parts adhere to established standards and regulatory requirements while meeting planned maintenance objectives. The Specialist will frequently utilize a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) such as SAP or IPES. Responsibilities may include managing contract administration processes and coordinating interfaces following contract award.
Key Responsibilities
  • Support the operational goals of sustained reliability while ensuring compliance with all relevant laws and regulations, thereby mitigating potential safety, health, and environmental incidents.
  • Maintain effective communication and collaboration with relevant Operations, Maintenance, and Logistics teams.
  • Comply with the company's OIMS / CIMS Systems and procedures, contributing to their ongoing review and enhancement.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in Computerized Maintenance Management Systems, effectively entering and extracting data to support site maintenance requirements.
  • Ensure that maintenance plans within the CMMS align with FIMS-approved equipment strategies.
  • Verify that local staff profiles in the CMMS are aligned with business process needs.
  • Provide local leadership with accurate Key Performance Indicator (KPI) data from FSM.

  • Familiarity with computerized maintenance management systems (e.g., SAP, Microsoft Dynamics, Maximo, etc.) is required.
