Overview

Responsible for the upkeep and repair of a variety of heavy machinery utilized in construction. Aim to enhance equipment functionality through effective and proactive maintenance strategies.

Key Responsibilities

Demonstrate a strong commitment to work while being able to follow instructions and collaborate effectively within a team or independently.

Comply with Permian Basin Materials' Code of Conduct and organizational policies.

Identify issues and carry out mechanical repairs and maintenance on both stationary production machinery and heavy equipment.

Utilize diagnostic tools, including computerized testing equipment, to troubleshoot faults or malfunctions and determine necessary repairs.

Conduct routine preventative maintenance tasks such as lubrication, oil changes, and failure analysis.

Execute all maintenance tasks in accordance with technical specifications and safety protocols.

Create detailed work orders for repairs and services, ensuring clarity and accuracy in documentation. Enter daily repair data into the maintenance database.

Maintain various equipment types, including feeders, conveyors, scrubbers, shakers, and classification systems, as well as other machinery such as crushers and hydraulic systems.

Regularly inspect equipment and complete inspection reports.

Test mechanical products and equipment post-repair or assembly to verify performance and adherence to manufacturer specifications.

Operate and assess machines/heavy equipment to identify defects.

Perform cleaning, lubrication, and other routine maintenance tasks on equipment.

Inspect parts for damage or excessive wear using precision tools.

Schedule maintenance for industrial machinery and maintain service records.

Read and comprehend operating manuals.

Overhaul and test machinery to ensure optimal operating efficiency.

Assemble gear systems and align frames and gears.

Fit bearings to adjust, repair, or overhaul mechanical equipment.

Weld or solder broken components and structural parts using appropriate tools.

Clean components using solvents or immersion tanks.

Rebuild or fabricate parts as necessary.

Adhere to all environmental, health, safety, and training policies and procedures.

Maintain a tidy work area and ensure all tools, vehicles, and equipment are in good condition, cleaning the workspace at the end of each shift.

Perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications:

Proficient computer skills for diagnostics and maintenance record-keeping.

Strong analytical skills for identifying and resolving mechanical issues.

A sufficient educational background to comprehend technical instructions related to products and equipment.

Ability to read technical manuals and interpret schematic diagrams.

EXPERIENCE/TRAINING/CERTIFICATIONS

High School Diploma or equivalent required.

Preferred training from an accredited technical institution.

Apprentice: less than 2 years of experience; capable of performing preventative maintenance and repairs.

Mechanic I: 2 years of experience; possesses 1 to 3 relevant certifications related to heavy equipment repair and maintenance; able to perform minor repairs independently and complex repairs under supervision.

Mechanic II: 2 to 5 years of experience; holds 4 or more relevant certifications and/or is qualified to perform significant repairs independently.

PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS

Candidate must be drug-free.

This position requires moderately strenuous physical activity.

Must be capable of:

  • Lifting and carrying up to 40 pounds from floor to 3' 6' occasionally,
  • Pushing or pulling a maximum force of 100 pounds occasionally,
  • Climbing in and out of equipment frequently,
  • Climbing ladders occasionally,
  • Sitting or standing for extended periods,
  • Using hands, fingers, and feet to operate and service heavy machinery,
  • Traveling safely over uneven terrain while operating heavy machinery,
  • Seeing, hearing, and responding to verbal and visual instructions,
  • Wearing appropriate protective gear including hard hats and safety glasses,
  • Observing all safety policies while on company premises and operating machinery,
  • Working in extreme weather conditions,
  • Occasionally working in wet or slippery conditions.

The work environment will vary from outdoor settings with fluctuating noise levels and vibrations from construction equipment to a standard office environment.
