Position Overview:

The Department of Forestry and Environmental Resources is dedicated to advancing knowledge in forestry and natural resource management, policy, and environmental science. Our team consists of over 90 faculty and staff, along with a vibrant community of undergraduate and graduate students. Key Responsibilities:

The Research Associate will be responsible for leading a comprehensive life cycle assessment (LCA) of the wood pellets supply chain in the Southern United States. The specific duties include:

  • Evaluating the carbon emissions associated with the wood pellet production process, utilizing various feedstocks such as logging residues and mill residues.
  • Leveraging data from the Forest Inventory and Analysis (FIA) program to analyze different stages of the wood pellet supply chain.
  • Creating a robust LCA framework to quantify carbon balance and emissions throughout the entire supply chain, from harvesting to shipment.
  • Defining system boundaries using empirical data to accurately estimate the carbon footprint of each stage in the production process.
  • Conducting data analysis and preparing manuscripts for peer-reviewed publications.
  • Assisting the Principal Investigator (PI) in the preparation of grant proposals.
  • Engaging in outreach and dissemination of research findings.

Additional Responsibilities:
  • Performing other tasks as assigned by the PI.

Work Schedule:

Standard work hours are Monday through Friday, from 8 AM to 5 PM.


Required Skills:

The ideal candidate will possess strong research capabilities, including the design and execution of research activities, and will contribute to the enhancement of research quality.


Preferred Qualifications:

Candidates should have a solid background in econometrics and statistics, with experience in life cycle assessment analysis.


Licensing Requirements:

No specific licenses or certifications are required for this position.


Compensation:

The anticipated salary range for this position is between $55,000 and $65,000.
