Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Information System Security Engineer to join our team at Applied Research Associates (ARA). As an ISSE, you will play a critical role in ensuring the security and integrity of our information systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate with the Information System Security Manager, Information System Security Officer, and ISSE Team lead to implement, maintain, and update System Security Plans, system baselines, and applicable NIST Publications.
  • Build, configure, and maintain systems that adhere to government regulations, including executing vulnerability scanning and coordinating with ISSO/ISSM to remediate identified vulnerabilities.
  • Maintain file servers, network access, and document and analyze system anomalies to ensure optimum equipment performance.
  • Prepare systems for operational use, authorization, and support operational testing, secure maintenance, and continuous monitoring.
  • Provide technical support to end users.
Requirements
  • U.S. citizenship is required, and a Secret clearance with eligibility for a Top-Secret Security Clearance is necessary.
  • High School Diploma and equivalent professional experience (at least 6 years) will be considered for talented candidates without a degree or Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field with 0-2 years of relevant experience.
  • Possess a DoD 8570 IAM-I level professional certification (i.e. Security +) or can obtain the certification within six (6) months of hire.
  • Strong understanding of computer operating systems (Windows 10, Server 2019/2022 and Red Hat Enterprise Linux), software, and computer hardware.
  • 2 years of working knowledge & experience with Cisco routers, firewalls, and switches.
  • 2 years of Windows 10 and Server 2016/2019/2022 experience.
  • 2 years of Red Hat Enterprise Linux experience.
  • 2 years of experience with Microsoft Active Directory and Group Policy.
Preferences
  • Master's degree in computer science or related field.
  • 2 years of experience with security assessment/hardening tools, i.e. STIGs, SCAP, Tenable Nessus, etc.
  • 4 years of Windows 10 and Server 2016/2019/2022 experience.
  • 4 years of experience with Microsoft Active Directory and Group Policy.
  • Experience working on Government-approved secure systems.
  • Cisco Certifications such as CCNA, CCNP, etc.
  • Experience working with RSA Cybersecurity SecurID hardware tokens/authenticators.
