Position Overview: The Literacy Educator is responsible for designing and executing an educational framework tailored for students in grades Kindergarten through 6. This role involves overseeing student conduct, evaluating academic performance, and adjusting teaching methods as necessary. The educator will engage in various student support and monitoring activities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver instruction focused on reading and literacy development.
  • Employ evidence-based teaching strategies that encompass the essential components of reading, whether in individual or small group settings.
  • Evaluate student capabilities in relation to established educational objectives and outcomes.
  • Craft and implement suitable instructional strategies and activities, determining the most effective learning principles, classroom organization, and materials to enhance student experiences.
  • Modify and personalize educational resources and methods to align with the diverse needs of students within the curriculum framework.
  • Take charge of fostering appropriate student behavior in the classroom by implementing effective discipline and management strategies.
  • Ensure a conducive learning environment by managing student behavior during instructional and non-instructional periods.
  • Collaborate with fellow educators and staff to optimize learning opportunities and manage instructional time effectively.
  • Utilize a range of instructional materials and technology to enrich the learning experience.
  • Seek assistance from specialized personnel as required.
  • Participate in professional development and staff meetings as mandated.
  • Continuously assess student progress and maintain necessary documentation for reporting purposes.
  • Communicate regularly with parents regarding student progress through both written and verbal means.
  • Provide clear communication regarding instructional expectations to students, keeping them informed of their academic progress.
  • Oversee the work of paraprofessionals and volunteers when applicable.
  • Maintain an inviting, safe, and effective learning environment, ensuring that materials are accessible and in good condition.
  • Engage in school-wide activities and events, supporting student engagement and community involvement.
  • Monitor student behavior in various school settings and intervene as necessary to maintain a positive environment.
  • Collaborate with other professionals to implement school-wide instructional initiatives.
  • May coordinate extracurricular activities, such as clubs and academic competitions.
  • Adhere to all policies and regulations regarding equal employment and non-discrimination.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education.
  • Valid professional teaching certification in Elementary Education with a Reading Endorsement.
  • Familiarity with curriculum, instructional methods, and educational resources for assigned grade levels.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to adapt instructional planning and evaluation to meet student needs.
  • Proficiency in applying current educational research and technology in teaching.
  • Capability to establish effective relationships with students, colleagues, and parents.
