The SEED School of Maryland is a statewide, public, college-preparatory boarding institution that provides an exceptional educational opportunity for students across the state. The school accommodates and educates 400 students in grades six through twelve, offering a tuition-free, college-preparatory, boarding education.
The SEED School of Maryland integrates a challenging and engaging academic curriculum with essential life skills and enrichment activities, ensuring a well-rounded learning and living experience. Students and their families commit to a comprehensive seven-year educational program that features small class sizes, high-quality teaching, mentoring, community service, and extracurricular activities such as sports and the arts. The SEED School is built around its core character values: compassion, self-discipline, integrity, respect for oneself and others, responsibility, honesty, and self-determination. The staff collaborates with parents, families, and communities to support student achievement. The school adheres to a standard academic calendar.
POSITION SUMMARY
Under the guidance of the Assistant Principal, the Visual Arts Educator is responsible for instructing and mentoring middle and/or high school students, ensuring their success in a college preparatory curriculum. The educator delivers effective instruction and support in the designated curricular areas, employs various instructional resources and technologies, demonstrates a thorough understanding of the teaching and learning process, and adapts instructional plans and materials to accommodate a diverse student body. Additionally, the educator maintains communication with parents and Student Life staff, collaborating effectively with administrators, colleagues, and all members of the school community.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Collaborate within a cohesive team environment to:
- Establish and sustain an engaging learning atmosphere for middle and/or high school students that fosters academic success.
- Support a program that emphasizes mastery of standards for student advancement.
- Deliver knowledge in an engaging and effective manner, utilizing a variety of instructional methodologies, curriculum resources, and materials.
- Analyze student assessment data to inform and enhance instructional practices.
- Encourage high levels of learning through diverse instructional methodologies and resources.
- Incorporate literacy strategies into the instructional framework.
- Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of all learners.
- Plan, organize, and deliver lessons tailored to assigned responsibilities, submitting lesson plans to the Principal as requested.
- Collaborate with colleagues on planning, professional development, standards-based curriculum, and common assessment design to contribute to ongoing instructional improvement.
- Assess student learning professionally and communicate progress to parents and fellow educators to inform future instruction.
- Identify students' special needs and seek additional support as necessary.
- Maintain and submit essential records, progress reports, and grade reports.
- Engage in faculty meetings, workshops, staff development programs, and other school-sponsored activities.
- Participate in summer programming, which may include direct service to incoming and returning students and curriculum development with colleagues.
- Assist in general supervision and discipline of students outside the classroom.
- Adhere to the professional and ethical standards outlined in the SEED Staff Manual.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in a related field is required.
- A Master's degree in a related field and/or prior teaching experience is highly desirable.
- Active teaching certification for grades 6-12 is required.
- Experience working with urban populations is a plus.
