Position Overview:
The Central Civil Works Department is expanding its operations in the Great Lakes and Mid-West region, seeking a Senior Civil Engineering Discipline Lead to contribute to the development of a robust engineering team.

Team Objectives:
We aim to assemble a diverse group of engineers specializing in various aspects of flood risk management, including but not limited to locks and dams, levees, floodwalls, navigation floodgates, stormwater pumping stations, outfalls, spillways, and ecosystem restoration.

Collaboration and Integration:
Our department engages in projects across the nation and internationally, combining the expertise of project managers, civil engineers, hydrology and hydraulics engineers, geotechnical engineers, structural engineers, and environmental specialists to deliver integrated, sustainable, and cost-effective solutions.

Position Responsibilities:
As the Civil Engineering Discipline Lead or Project Design Manager for significant flood risk management initiatives, your key responsibilities will include:

  • Design Leadership: Develop innovative designs and oversee the creation of plans, specifications, cost estimates, technical reports, and other project documentation, employing advanced methodologies to enhance flood risk management projects from inception through construction.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with clients and AECOM counterparts to ensure stakeholder alignment and contribute to AECOM's broader technical capabilities and innovative strategies.
  • Quality Assurance: Supervise and evaluate the work of team members, adhering to quality control protocols to guarantee timely and precise outcomes.
  • Innovation: Actively seek opportunities to implement and test new methodologies, fostering a culture of inquiry and forward-thinking.
  • Mentorship: Assign tasks, guide and oversee the work of junior engineers, and serve as a technical mentor.

Additional Responsibilities:
Ensure compliance with all relevant standards and regulations, providing the necessary professional engineer seal and signature. Participate in alternative analyses and value engineering, conduct constructability reviews, and perform site visits to assess ongoing construction activities, site conditions, and compliance with sediment and erosion control measures.

Client Interaction:
Present project proposals and updates to clients as required, offering insights on hours and assumptions for cost proposals, and determining staffing needs based on project scope and timelines.

Business Development:
Assist in proposal development and business growth initiatives as necessary.
