Minneapolis, Minnesota, United States AECOM Full time
Position Overview:

The Central Civil Works Department is expanding rapidly in the Great Lakes and Mid-West region, and we are seeking a Senior Civil Engineering Discipline Lead to contribute to the development of a robust team in this area.

We are enthusiastic about assembling a diverse group of engineers specializing in flood risk management systems, including locks and dams, levees, floodwalls, navigation floodgates, stormwater pumping stations, outfalls, spillways, and ecosystem restoration.

Our department engages in projects and collaborates with teams across the nation and internationally. We integrate the expertise of project managers, civil engineers, hydrology and hydraulics engineers, geotechnical engineers, structural engineers, as well as environmental and planning specialists to deliver comprehensive, sustainable, and cost-effective solutions.

This role is hybrid in nature.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design Leadership: Envision the design and supervise the preparation of plans, specifications, cost estimates, technical reports, and other project documentation; apply standard techniques, procedures, and criteria while employing advanced methods to innovate solutions on flood risk management projects from inception through construction.
  • Collaboration: Work alongside clients and AECOM counterparts to ensure stakeholder alignment with solutions, while also contributing to AECOM's broader technical capabilities and innovative methodologies.
  • Quality Assurance: Oversee and evaluate the work produced by others, adhering to all quality control measures to guarantee timely and precise outcomes.
  • Innovation: Seek opportunities to innovate and experiment with new methods by maintaining a curious and forward-thinking mindset.
  • Mentorship: Assign tasks, guide and supervise the work of others, and serve as a technical mentor.

Team Collaboration: Engage closely with a multi-disciplinary project team, including civil, geotechnical, hydrology and hydraulics engineers, structural engineers, mechanical engineers, electrical engineers, surveyors, and consultants.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Ensure design compliance with all relevant standards and regulations, providing the seal and signature of the professional engineer.
  • Participate in alternatives analyses and value engineering.
  • Conduct constructability reviews.
  • Perform site visits at active construction locations to assess field conditions, ongoing site work, site utilities, sediment and erosion control inspections, and as-built conditions.
  • Present project proposals to clients as required.
  • Provide expertise on hours and assumptions for cost proposals, and determine staffing needs for the defined scope and schedule.
  • Assist with proposals and business development efforts as necessary.

Career Development at AECOM:
You have the opportunity to shape this position into a role that encompasses technical leadership, people management, project management, and business development. Each of these roles is equally significant and valued.
