Senior Civil Engineering Team Leader

Minneapolis, Minnesota, United States AECOM Full time
Position Overview:

The Central Civil Works Department is expanding rapidly in the Great Lakes and Mid-West region, and we are seeking a Senior Civil Engineering Discipline Lead to contribute to the development of a robust team in this area.

We are enthusiastic about assembling a diverse group of engineers specializing in flood risk management systems, including locks and dams, levees, floodwalls, navigation floodgates, stormwater pumping stations, outfalls, spillways, and ecosystem restoration.

Our department engages in projects and collaborates with teams nationwide and globally. We integrate the expertise of project managers, civil engineers, hydrology and hydraulics engineers, geotechnical engineers, structural engineers, as well as environmental and planning specialists to deliver comprehensive, sustainable, and cost-effective solutions.

This role is a hybrid position, primarily focusing on federal projects for clients such as USACE, USIBWC, FEMA, NRCS, and others.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design Leadership: Envision and supervise the development of plans, specifications, cost estimates, technical reports, and other project documentation. Employ standard techniques and procedures while leveraging advanced methods to innovate solutions for flood risk management projects from inception through construction.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with clients and AECOM counterparts to ensure stakeholder engagement and contribute to AECOM's broader technical capabilities and innovative methodologies.
  • Quality Assurance: Oversee and evaluate the work produced by team members, adhering to all quality control protocols to guarantee timely and precise outcomes.
  • Innovation: Seek opportunities to innovate and test new methodologies by maintaining a curious and forward-thinking approach.
  • Mentorship: Assign tasks, guide and supervise the work of others, and serve as a technical mentor.

Team Integration: Collaborate closely with a multidisciplinary project team, including civil, geotechnical, hydrology and hydraulics engineers, structural engineers, mechanical engineers, electrical engineers, surveyors, and consultants.

Additional Responsibilities: Ensure design compliance with all relevant standards and regulations, providing the seal and signature of the professional engineer. Participate in alternatives analyses and value engineering, conduct constructability reviews, and perform site visits at active construction sites to assess field conditions, ongoing site work, site utilities, and sediment and erosion control inspections.

Present project proposals to clients as required, provide expertise on labor hours and assumptions for cost proposals, and determine staffing needs for the defined scope and schedule. Assist with proposals and business development as necessary.

Career Development at AECOM: This position offers the opportunity to evolve into various roles, including technical leadership, people management, project management, and business development, all of which are equally valued and important.
