REPORTS TO: Integrated Logistics Support (ILS) Manager

SUPERVISES: Oversees the activities of a dedicated Human Factors Engineering (HFE)/Human Systems Integration (HSI) Engineer; facilitates HFE/HSI collaboration across ILS/Integrated Product Support (IPS) initiatives throughout all stages of a marine system's life cycle, including requirements definition, design, development, production, operations, and decommissioning.

AUTHORITIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Establishes and nurtures strategic partnerships with internal and external clients, stakeholders, and colleagues.
  • Utilizes human performance principles, methodologies, and technologies to enhance the design of human-machine systems and products.
  • Formulates and executes research methodologies and analysis plans to assess and evaluate developmental prototypes for new products, such as Pilot House hardware designs and graphical user interfaces on a ship's bridge.
  • Applies knowledge of military standards (e.g., MIL-STD-1472 and MIL-STD-1474) to fulfill program requirements.
  • Coordinates between resource managers/supervisors to ensure all necessary reviews and approvals are obtained.
  • Adheres to company policies and procedures as outlined in the employee handbook.
  • Collaborates across multiple engineering teams to integrate human engineering considerations into the overall system design and development.
  • Defines system performance requirements to guarantee safe and effective human operation of physical, functional, and program interfaces for maintainers.
QUALIFICATIONS / KNOWLEDGE / EXPERIENCE:
  • PhD in a Human Engineering discipline (e.g., Human Systems Engineering, Human Factors Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Engineering Psychology).
  • Over 10 years of experience in the human engineering domain.
  • Proven understanding of U.S. Navy and U.S. Coast Guard shipbuilding specifications such as ABS, Mil, API, and other similar general construction specifications.
  • Familiarity with NAVSEA Operations.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage schedules and monitor progress to meet strict deadlines.
  • Expertise in Human System Integration (HSI).
  • Capability to define HFE processes for application by human engineering teams.
  • Experience in documenting HFE processes and products in accordance with US Military Data Item Descriptions.
  • Experience in workload assessments and situation awareness evaluations.
  • Proficiency with user interface software prototyping tools.
  • Experience with usability software (e.g., Morae, Camtasia).
  • Knowledge in Human Perception and Cognition.
  • Experience with Human Performance Modeling.
  • Expertise in Display Design Requirements and Testing.
  • Experience in conducting task analyses.
  • Familiarity with Agile Development methodologies.
RESPONSIBILITIES: This role may involve managing repair efforts in various offsite locations, with potential travel exceeding 40-50%.

TOOLS: Computer - MS Office, AutoCAD

LIAISES WITH: ILS Manager, Engineers, Designers, Draftspersons, Production Personnel, Production Control, Supply, Logistics, Regulatory Bodies, Program Management, and Equipment Suppliers.
