Position Overview:

Engagement and Support for First-Year Engineering Students:

The Engineering Academic Support Advisor plays a pivotal role in fostering the success and retention of newly admitted engineering students. This position is dedicated to guiding first-year students in selecting the appropriate engineering major and accessing essential resources to ensure their ongoing success throughout their academic journey. The advisor will conduct meaningful meetings with students during critical registration periods to assist with course selection and compliance with academic tracking requirements. By nurturing strong relationships with advisees, the advisor will create opportunities for regular, impactful interactions that promote student development. Responsibilities include processing academic probation documentation and collaborating with the Office of Undergraduate Student Affairs to provide necessary support during probationary periods. The advisor will also participate in orientation programs, assisting both students and their families in their transition to university life. Effective communication and the dissemination of vital information to students are key components of this role, including the creation of informational materials and resources related to major requirements and career planning.

Collaboration within Engineering Student Affairs:

The advisor must demonstrate a collaborative spirit and professionalism when working as part of the Engineering Undergraduate Student Affairs team. Responsibilities include coordinating activities and engaging with students involved in various programs aimed at enhancing student success and retention. Specific duties may include:

**First-Year Advising Team:** Collaborating with fellow advisors to promote retention among first-year engineering students by providing essential tools and resources for academic and professional success, including academic planning and connecting students with relevant organizations. **New Student Programs:** Contributing to the welcoming and transition processes for first-year students through orientation and welcome events. **Student Engagement:** Encouraging advisees to participate in student organizations to enrich their university experience.
External Collaboration:

The advisor will also engage with campus partners to enhance the overall student experience. Responsibilities may include:

**Orientation Programs:** Actively participating in improving the orientation experience for new students and their families by conducting information sessions and providing individual advising. **Departmental Collaboration:** Building strong relationships with departmental advisors within the engineering college. **Advising Councils:** Engaging with the Engineering Undergraduate Advising Council and other relevant committees to contribute to the advising community. **Professional Development:** Seeking opportunities for personal and professional growth within the field of academic advising.
Additional duties may be assigned to support the overall function of the department.

Expected Salary: Competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Minimum Qualifications:
Master's degree in education, counseling, or a related academic field, or a Bachelor's degree with relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree preferred. Experience in advising undergraduate students, particularly first-year students, is highly desirable. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential, along with familiarity with university policies and procedures to support student recruitment and retention. The advisor must exercise sound judgment and maintain confidentiality.
