Mechanical Engineer for Energy Systems

Arlington, Virginia, United States Booz Allen Hamilton Full time

Position Overview:

Imagine utilizing your engineering expertise to contribute to the development of a sustainable energy framework for the Department of Defense (DoD). As a Mechanical Engineer specializing in energy systems analysis, you will navigate the complexities of creating innovative solutions that seamlessly integrate with established mechanical infrastructures. Your insights will be crucial in pinpointing weaknesses within the systems that support vital operations and in crafting energy resilience strategies that enhance mission reliability while embracing carbon-neutral technologies.

Your role will support the DoD's mission readiness through energy resilience, which encompasses not only the personnel involved in critical operations but also the systems that facilitate mission success. Transitioning from traditional fossil fuels to electric heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems is essential for achieving strategic objectives. You will be part of a team dedicated to identifying energy resilience deficiencies and proposing projects that align with mission needs to address these gaps. We seek a Mechanical Engineer with a solid background in energy systems evaluation and project development to offer recommendations on enhancing the resilience of energy systems, ultimately influencing the DoD's energy decision-making processes.

In this role, you will collaborate with military installations to assess energy vulnerabilities and propose initiatives that encompass all facets of energy and climate resilience, including electrical, mechanical, water, fuel, and communication systems, ensuring compliance with operational requirements. Your work will also contribute to the energy sector by investigating the potential for renewable energy solutions as alternatives to conventional generation methods. This position presents an opportunity to apply your problem-solving skills while gaining valuable experience in energy management.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in engineering applications.
  • Proficiency in mechanical system design and engineering methodologies.
  • Familiarity with energy infrastructure, including heating, cooling, air conditioning, and water supply systems, as well as renewable energy technologies such as geothermal, hydro, or wind.
  • Experience in developing and analyzing requirements for complex energy systems projects.
  • Capability to provide constructive engineering recommendations for system development, enhancement, optimization, or support.
  • Willingness to travel between 25-50% of the time.
  • Eligibility to obtain a Secret clearance.
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Physics, or Mathematics.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in evaluating the condition of energy infrastructure, including age, quality, quantity, and vulnerabilities.
  • Background in designing, constructing, installing, or maintaining electrical systems.
  • Experience collaborating with federal government entities and the Department of Defense.
  • Knowledge of NFPA 70, IEEE, UFC, and UFGS standards.
  • Strong communication skills to effectively engage with diverse client stakeholders and synthesize gathered information.
  • EIT Certification.

Clearance Requirements:

Selected candidates will undergo a security investigation and must meet eligibility criteria for access to classified information; a Secret clearance is mandatory.

Compensation and Benefits:

Booz Allen Hamilton values your contributions and offers a comprehensive benefits package that includes health, life, disability, financial, and retirement benefits, along with paid leave, professional development opportunities, tuition assistance, work-life balance programs, and dependent care support. Our recognition awards program honors employees for exceptional performance and alignment with our core values. Eligibility for benefits is available to full-time and part-time employees working a minimum of 20 hours per week on a regular basis.
