Iridium is in search of a dedicated Lead Systems Architect to become a vital member of our Network Engineering Team. In this capacity, you will serve as the Systems Engineer for various projects at Iridium. Your primary responsibility will encompass all technical dimensions related to the design and requirements management of the assigned initiatives. Success in this role hinges on your extensive background in Systems Engineering and profound understanding of both space and terrestrial networks.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and uphold network infrastructure, focusing on automation and security measures.
  • Oversee and manage 4G/5G Core Network operations.
  • Administer Linux and/or Debian GNU/Linux environments.
  • Manage multi-user system environments effectively.
  • Establish, prepare, and sustain CI/CD architecture.
  • Oversee backup systems and Disaster Recovery protocols.
  • Draft and maintain comprehensive technical documentation.
  • Conduct requirements analysis, definition, decomposition, and management for project-based services, performing necessary system analysis (functional & performance), interface definition, and detailed trade studies.
  • Support the integration and testing teams.
  • Coordinate and deliver multiple or complex technical assignments with a clear focus on end goals, adeptly managing shifting priorities.
  • Exhibit the capability to comprehend how intricate issues impact project operations and devise innovative solutions from inception to completion.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Over 10 years of relevant experience in SysOPS and/or DevOps for intricate technical projects.
  • Experience in engineering and operating a 4G EPC (MME, SGW, PGW, PCRF, HSS, and SCEF).
  • In-depth knowledge of 4G core network call flows.
  • Familiarity with network protocols, including but not limited to Diameter, GTP, DNS, SS7/MAP, and HTTP.
  • Experience in analyzing and troubleshooting 4G/5G call flows using network diagnostic tools (e.g., Wireshark, IrisView, Netscout).
  • IP networking and routing expertise.
  • Proficient in Git, CI/CD, containerization, and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools: GitLab, Harbor, Helm, Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform, Ansible.
  • Strong proficiency in Linux and/or Debian GNU/Linux operating systems (administration, kernel parameters).
  • Experience in the implementation and configuration of networks (Routing, Switching, Firewalls).
  • Familiarity with monitoring tools and log servers (e.g., Elasticsearch, Prometheus, Splunk).
  • Experience with backup systems and Disaster Recovery.
  • Proficient coding skills in Bash and Python.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in engineering and operating a cloud-native 4G/5G Core Network.
  • 5G Core experience (AMF, SMF, UPF, PCF, UDR/UDM, AUSF, and NEF).
  • Experience in engineering and maintaining an SMSC and its associated components.
  • Experience in implementing and supporting 4G roaming services using an IPX carrier.
  • Familiarity with NB-IoT or LTE CAT-M technologies.

Additional Requirements:

  • Willingness and ability to travel up to 25% of the time.
  • Due to ITAR regulations, US Citizenship is required.

Work Environment:

This position primarily operates in an office setting or from a home office. The role is predominantly sedentary, involving extended periods of sitting and working with a computer. Basic office equipment such as a phone, video conferencing tools, computer, keyboard, mouse, and printer will be utilized.
