Position Overview

The Patient Care Coordinator plays a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of the nursing unit at El Paso Children's Hospital. This position encompasses a variety of administrative and supportive tasks aimed at enhancing patient care and facilitating communication among healthcare professionals.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Administrative Support: Execute general office and reception tasks, including the upkeep of medical records, processing orders, and managing materials within the nursing unit. Provide assistance to visitors, nursing personnel, and other members of the healthcare team. Ensure a clean and safe environment is maintained at all times.
  2. Nursing Assistance: Carry out nursing assistant responsibilities under the direct supervision of registered nurses, licensed vocational nurses, or nurse managers.
Essential Skills

1. Proficient in interacting and communicating effectively with individuals over the phone and in person, particularly in high-pressure situations.

  1. Familiarity with medical terminology.
  2. Understanding of patient medical records and clinical documentation.
  3. Competence in utilizing hospital computer systems for ADT order entry, requisitions, lab inquiries, and other related software applications.
  4. Knowledge of clinical procedures and operations.
  5. Experience with inventory control and equipment ordering.
  6. Strong clerical, word processing, and office management skills.
  7. Ability to read and comprehend English at a level necessary to follow written and oral instructions and safety protocols.
  8. Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is preferred.
Qualifications

A. Work Experience: Experience in a hospital environment is preferred.

B. Education and Training:

  1. Completion of an accredited educational program for nursing assistants or equivalent training.
  2. High school diploma or equivalent.
  3. Completion of an approved unit clerk program within the first year of employment.

C. Certification:

  1. Nursing assistant certification is preferred.
  2. Current CPR certification from the American Heart Association is required.
