About the Role

**Patient Access Specialist**

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Patient Access Specialist to join our team at Emerus. As a Patient Access Specialist, you will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth and efficient processing of patient information, insurance verification, and billing.

Key Responsibilities
  • Compliance and Regulatory Management
    • Maintain compliance with EMTALA, DNV, HIPAA, and other relevant hospital and government regulations.
  • Customer Service and Communication
    • Provide exceptional customer service to patients, families, and healthcare team members.
    • Answer phone calls in a professional and courteous manner, record messages, and communicate with the appropriate medical staff.
  • Registration and Insurance Verification
    • Obtain, verify, and enter complete and accurate demographic information on all accounts to facilitate smooth processing through the revenue cycle.
    • Verify insurance benefits for all plans associated with patients, confirming the correct payor and plan is entered into the patient accounting system.
    • Obtain insurance authorizations as required by individual insurance plans where applicable.
  • Collection and Cash Handling
    • Maximize the efficiency and accuracy of the collection process by pursuing collections at the time of service in a customer service-oriented fashion.
    • Maintain a cash drawer according to policies.
  • Medical Records and Documentation
    • Scan all registration and clinical documentation into the system and maintain all medical records.
  • Additional Responsibilities
    • Assist with coordinating the transfer of patients to other hospitals when necessary.
    • Respond to medical record requests from patients, physicians, and hospitals.
    • Maintain a clean working environment for the facility.
    • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Education and Experience
    • High School Diploma or GED, required.
    • 1 year of patient registration and insurance verification experience in a healthcare setting, required; 2 years preferred.
    • Emergency Department registration experience, strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge and Skills
    • Knowledge of various insurance plans (HMO, PPO, POS, Medicare, Medicaid) and payors, required.
    • Basic understanding of medical terminology.
    • Excellent customer service skills.
    • Working knowledge of MS Office (MS Word, Excel, and Outlook), strongly preferred.
