**Patient Access Specialist**
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Patient Access Specialist to join our team at Emerus. As a Patient Access Specialist, you will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth and efficient processing of patient information, insurance verification, and billing.
Key Responsibilities- Compliance and Regulatory Management
- Maintain compliance with EMTALA, DNV, HIPAA, and other relevant hospital and government regulations.
- Customer Service and Communication
- Provide exceptional customer service to patients, families, and healthcare team members.
- Answer phone calls in a professional and courteous manner, record messages, and communicate with the appropriate medical staff.
- Registration and Insurance Verification
- Obtain, verify, and enter complete and accurate demographic information on all accounts to facilitate smooth processing through the revenue cycle.
- Verify insurance benefits for all plans associated with patients, confirming the correct payor and plan is entered into the patient accounting system.
- Obtain insurance authorizations as required by individual insurance plans where applicable.
- Collection and Cash Handling
- Maximize the efficiency and accuracy of the collection process by pursuing collections at the time of service in a customer service-oriented fashion.
- Maintain a cash drawer according to policies.
- Medical Records and Documentation
- Scan all registration and clinical documentation into the system and maintain all medical records.
- Additional Responsibilities
- Assist with coordinating the transfer of patients to other hospitals when necessary.
- Respond to medical record requests from patients, physicians, and hospitals.
- Maintain a clean working environment for the facility.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
- Education and Experience
- High School Diploma or GED, required.
- 1 year of patient registration and insurance verification experience in a healthcare setting, required; 2 years preferred.
- Emergency Department registration experience, strongly preferred.
- Knowledge and Skills
- Knowledge of various insurance plans (HMO, PPO, POS, Medicare, Medicaid) and payors, required.
- Basic understanding of medical terminology.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Working knowledge of MS Office (MS Word, Excel, and Outlook), strongly preferred.
