Executive Sous Chef

**Job Summary:**

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Sous Chef to join our team at The Barrington at Hioaks Retirement and Assisted Living Community in Richmond, VA. As a key member of our culinary team, the Sous Chef will assist the Executive Chef in all phases of meal preparation, ensuring the highest standards of quality, safety, and sanitation.

**Key Responsibilities:**

  • Maintain a working knowledge of culinary methods and techniques, including ingredient preparation and recipe execution.
  • Assist the Executive Chef with meal preparation, including the preparation of salad bar offerings, desserts, and bakery items.
  • Properly label and store food items in accordance with safe storage standards.
  • Understand and operate kitchen equipment, including food processors, dishwashers, and convection ovens.
  • Maintain a clean and sanitary work environment, including floors.
  • Responsible for the creation and preparation of baked food items, breads, desserts, and other culinary delights.
  • Perform scheduled cleaning of equipment and work areas according to schedule.
  • Set up the salad bar as required.
  • Assist in the organization and rotation of all stored food items.
  • Assist on the serving line when needed.
  • Independently resolve personnel conflicts and service problems within scope of responsibility.
  • Attend staff meetings and in-services as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

**Requirements:**

  • Minimum education of high school graduate with additional training in culinary arts preferred.
  • Must hold current Serve Safe certification.
  • Must have the ability to read, write, and follow directions both verbally and written.
  • Must have the willingness and ability to independently resolve problems and make decisions within scope of authority.
  • Must be willing and able to perform simple repetitive tasks.
  • Must be in designated uniform during working hours.
  • Must be willing to lead and resolve conflicts as well as work as part of a team.
  • Must be willing and able to work a flexible schedule to include weekends and holidays.
  • Must be customer-focused and display excellent customer service skills.
  • Must have the physical ability to stand for long periods of time and to exert 25 lbs. of force frequently, 50 lbs. occasionally, to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
