Title: Therapeutic Communication Specialist

Supervisor: Principal and/or Special Education Coordinator

Job Objectives:
  • To deliver specialized services to students with communication challenges, including language, speech, or auditory disorders.
  • To provide collaborative and consultative support to educators, parents, and administrative staff to enhance academic performance and overall school success.
  • To act as an advocate and professional resource for students, families, and the educational community.
Essential Qualifications:
  1. Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
  2. Valid certification as mandated by the relevant state education department and professional associations.
  3. Ability to fulfill employment suitability criteria as required by child protection legislation.
  4. Strong oral and written communication skills.
  5. Capability to analyze assessment data, categorize students, and develop tailored instructional strategies.
  6. Excellent interpersonal skills, emphasizing collaboration with diverse groups to maximize student success.
  7. Problem-solving abilities as an effective team member.
  8. Proficiency in utilizing technology for communication, data management, and reporting.
  9. Ability to work with educators and staff to ensure effective implementation of individualized education plans (IEPs).
  10. Physical capability to perform job responsibilities.
  11. Consistent punctuality and attendance.
  12. Any other qualifications as deemed necessary by the Board.
Key Responsibilities:
  1. Support the educational vision, goals, and priorities of the institution.
  2. Conduct screenings for language and speech within the educational setting.
  3. Administer hearing assessments as required.
  4. Evaluate and diagnose students with communication disorders using standardized assessment tools.
  5. Select students for therapeutic services based on clinical assessments.
  6. Collaborate with educational leaders to arrange therapy schedules for students.
  7. Coordinate communication services with other educational programs.
  8. Design and implement therapeutic interventions for students with communication challenges.
  9. Provide both individual and group therapy sessions.
  10. Refer students to additional support services as necessary.
  11. Participate in the development and execution of IEPs.
  12. Connect students with community resources and specialists when needed.
  13. Update educators on student progress in therapy.
  14. Offer consultative guidance to teachers and parents regarding communication skill development.
  15. Recommend materials for enhancing speech improvement initiatives in classrooms.
  16. Maintain accurate records of student progress in therapy.
  17. Keep confidential records regarding students with hearing impairments to inform educators.
  18. Conduct meetings with parents to discuss student progress.
  19. Uphold confidentiality regarding school-related matters.
  20. Proactively identify areas for improvement within responsibilities.
  21. Collaborate effectively with supervisors and colleagues to achieve the institution's objectives.
  22. Engage in ongoing professional development and uphold ethical standards.
  23. Report any unusual occurrences or concerns to appropriate personnel.
  24. Ensure confidentiality in accordance with legal standards.
  25. Respond to inquiries and feedback in a constructive manner.
  26. Submit required documentation in a timely and accurate fashion.
  27. Utilize and maintain school resources responsibly.
  28. Work collaboratively as part of a team.
  29. Participate in committees and groups as needed.
  30. Adhere to institutional policies and legal regulations.
  31. Report absences according to established procedures.
  32. Perform other related duties as assigned.
