Position Title: Senior Mechanical Engineering Technician

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Compensation: $35.91/hour

Reports to: Operations Manager

Work Arrangement: Onsite

Location: Webster, Texas

Travel Requirements: No travel necessary

Position Summary:

The Senior Mechanical Engineering Technician operates under direct supervision, responsible for the upkeep and operation of commercial production machinery. This role demands a combination of manual dexterity, meticulous attention to detail, and proficiency with hand and power tools, as well as commercial production equipment, to support various development initiatives at KULR. The technician will utilize a range of machinery and laboratory tools to meet project deliverables. Additionally, this position may involve supporting the fabrication, assembly, and testing of lithium-ion battery systems.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist mechanical engineers in planning and evaluating mechanical components, machinery, and equipment, including engines, instruments, controls, and robotics.
  • Prepare project proposals and cost assessments.
  • Estimate workloads to set project timelines.
  • Interpret technical drawings, schematics, manuals, and work instructions.
  • Assemble, install, align, and calibrate mechanical systems according to established specifications.
  • Conduct routine inspections, maintenance, and repairs on mechanical systems, including automated machinery, motors, pumps, and conveyors.
  • Diagnose mechanical issues using technical expertise and diagnostic tools.
  • Develop and document maintenance plans for equipment.
  • Fabricate and build prototype components, particularly for battery systems.
  • Facilitate testing of lithium-ion batteries, including electrical cycling and thermal runaway experiments.
  • Assist in destructive physical analysis (DPA) following battery testing.
  • Conduct calorimetric and impingement zone mapping tests on lithium-ion cells and packs (training available).
  • Process test data and prepare reports.
  • Support the transition from prototype to production.
  • Verify dimensions of components using precision measuring tools to ensure compliance with specifications.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including engineers and quality control personnel, to meet production and quality objectives.
  • Monitor equipment performance and address any operational issues.
  • Maintain a clean and organized workspace.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:Education & Experience:
  • High school diploma or equivalent experience.
  • 3-5 years of relevant experience.
  • Background in science, technology, or mathematics preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Proficient in the use of various hand and power tools.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical systems and components.
  • Skilled in troubleshooting and engineering support.
  • Familiar with project scoping and prototyping.
  • Knowledgeable in reporting testing results.
  • Proficient in CAD and Computer-Aided Engineering (CAE) software.
  • Ability to influence and build effective relationships with stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated accountability and respect in professional interactions.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • Innovative mindset with the ability to create and implement effective processes.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
