JOB SUMMARY
The Cardiac Catheterization Technician plays a vital role within the Cardiac Cath Lab team, serving as a skilled Cardiovascular technician during catheterization procedures. This position requires a high level of technical expertise in all aspects of Cardiac Cath Lab operations and equipment, as well as a solid understanding of anatomical and physiological principles to effectively assist the Cardiologist or Electrophysiologist in delivering exceptional cardiac care.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum of two (2) years of full-time experience in Invasive Cardiovascular Technology, which can be satisfied by one of the following:
a. An Associate Degree or equivalent college coursework (62 semester hours) in health, science, natural science, nursing, engineering, or any primary science, along with one (1) year of full-time or equivalent experience in Invasive Cardiovascular Technology.
b. A Bachelor’s degree in health, science, natural science, nursing, engineering, or any primary science, with six (6) months of full-time or equivalent experience in Invasive Cardiovascular Technology.
2. Graduation from an accredited program in Invasive Cardiovascular Technology, or a non-accredited program with at least one (1) year of specialized training and a minimum of 800 clinical hours.
Required Certifications: New hires must possess one of the following certifications:
a) RCIS (Registered Cardiac Invasive Specialist) from CCI (Cardiovascular Credentialing International)
b) ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists)
OCCUPATIONAL EXPOSURE
This position involves Category I exposure to bloodborne pathogens, frequent contact with chemical hazards, and potential radiation exposure.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Exhibit technical proficiency in all cardiac catheterization procedures while serving as a primary Cardiac Cath Lab Technician or Hemodynamic Recorder.
- Accurately identify cardiac structures, coronary vasculature, and related disease processes.
- Adhere to radiation safety protocols and maintain compliance with regulations set forth by relevant authorities.
- Assist the physician in data collection for the Physiologic Monitoring System(s) to ensure accurate assessment of hemodynamic pressures.
- Report Ejection Fraction accurately by demonstrating proficiency in cardiac function assessment.
- Ensure proper archiving of angiographic and procedural data for long-term storage.
Additional Job Functions:
- May have access to contrast agents and other non-controlled medications as required.
- Participate in a rotating on-call schedule.
- Support the mission and vision of Houston Physicians Hospital while providing excellent customer service.

- Complete other assigned duties as necessary.
Employees are expected to engage in ongoing training and competency assessments specific to the patient population served, including:
- Diagnostic Cardiac Catheterization
- Peripheral Angiography
- PTCA and Stent implantation
- Use of aspiration/extraction devices
- Distal Embolization Protection devices, PTA, and Peripheral Stent implantation
- Vascular Closure devices
- Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump
- Temporary Transvenous Pacing
- Implantable Defibrillators/Pacemakers
ENVIRONMENTAL AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
WORKING CONDITIONS:
This position primarily involves indoor work, with approximately 40 hours or more per week spent inside.
WORK POSITIONS:
Work involves sitting (40%), standing (40%), and walking (20%).
LIFTING/CARRYING DEMANDS: The ability to lift, push, and pull with assistance is required, with an emphasis on light work, lifting up to 20 lbs. maximum and frequently carrying items weighing up to 10 lbs.
