The Tennessee Department of Correction is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Regional Human Resources Director to oversee the full scope of human resources services for approximately 2,000 employees working for the Department of Correction within the assigned region.

This individual will serve as a key strategic partner to agency leadership within the region to ensure the alignment of human resources activities with the agency's mission and compliance with relevant laws, rules, and policies.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in human resources management, with experience in leading human resources staff and administering policies, programs, and procedures in a law enforcement, correctional, or government setting.

The Regional Human Resources Director will be responsible for implementing effective HR initiatives, overseeing and managing the full scope of human resources services across the region, and serving as the key human resources partner to key leaders at the region, district, and facility level.

The successful candidate will have excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to proactively build positive relationships with stakeholders at all levels, both internal and external.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Implement effective HR initiatives to a large population over various geographic locations in a consistent, legally defensible way.
  • Oversee and manage the full scope of human resources services across the region, including recruiting and retention, benefits, employee relations, classification and compensation, leave and attendance, disciplinary actions, and other human resources programs.
  • Serve as the key human resources partner to key leaders at the region, district, and facility level, providing high-level and timely subject matter expertise across all areas of human resources.
  • Oversee and manage the implementation of strategic projects across the functional areas of human resources and organizational units of the agency; monitor progress and follow-up to ensure timely completion.
  • Oversee human resources compliance with federal and state law, rule, and policy, ensuring effective plans of corrective action are developed and implemented to address any identified shortcoming.
  • Analyze and make recommendations for improvements in the efficiency and quality of the operation and services human resources within the assigned region.
