Optum Financial Counselor Job Description

At Optum, we're dedicated to helping people live healthier lives and making the health system work better for everyone. As a Financial Counselor, you'll play a critical role in this mission by providing expert financial guidance to patients and families.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Notify payers of inpatient stays and obtain authorizations for inpatients and/or observation patients while in house and documenting in the EMR
  • Monitor and actively work EMR work queues for account activity needs
  • Obtain all demographics and insurance information
  • Collect payments at the point of service
  • Provide information and answer phone calls
  • Perform other duties pertinent to optimal patient experience, patient flow, and efficient staff utilization

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma/GED (or higher)
  • Ability to work onsite at 250 Bon Air Rd, Greenbrae, CA
  • Ability to work full-time (40 hours/week)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 1+ years of hospital registration experience
  • 1+ years of experience in an office or medical environment
  • Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Outlook, Word, and ability to navigate Windows
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Comfortable handling cash transactions and Electronic Medical Records
  • Knowledge of insurance, coding, authorizations, and revenue cycle
