Job Overview

The Mental Health Association of Nassau County (MHANC) is a dedicated non-profit organization focused on enhancing mental wellness within our community through advocacy, education, and the provision of essential services. We are seeking a passionate individual committed to supporting adults facing mental health challenges in the role of a Veterans Peer Facilitator and Mail Courier.

The Veterans Peer Facilitator will lead peer support sessions for veterans across various locations in Nassau County. This role involves delivering documentation from NCOMHCDDDS to local mental health initiatives. Alongside document transport, the facilitator will utilize personal experiences and peer specialist training to aid others in their recovery journey from mental health conditions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Facilitate peer support groups at multiple venues throughout Nassau County.
  • Engage in public speaking at veteran organizations and social service entities to promote available services.
  • Operate in a mobile capacity to connect with veterans as necessary.
  • Provide individual interactions with veterans to suggest referrals to additional benefits and services.
  • Address urgent situations as they arise.
  • Maintain necessary documentation as required.
  • Complete training sessions as mandated.
  • Perform additional tasks as requested.
  • Manage the transport of confidential materials, packages, and informational booklets between agencies.
  • Coordinate pick-up schedules with agency representatives regarding courier materials.
  • Assist clients with transportation to and from appointments.
  • Support clients in navigating public transportation.
  • Exhibit organization and adaptability to accommodate changes in courier duties.
  • Provide regular updates on location to administrative staff.
  • Maintain communication with supervisors regarding current whereabouts.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma required; Bachelor's or Master's degree preferred.
  • Must be a Veteran.
  • Preferred lived experience with trauma and recovery.
  • Prior experience in mental health services is advantageous.

Additional Requirements

  • Valid NYS Driver's License and personal transportation required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, and data entry; must have access to a home computer and internet.
  • Personal cell phone required; strong verbal and written communication skills are essential.
