Role Summary:

Under the guidance of the school principal, the individual in this role will deliver counseling services to students facing social, emotional, behavioral, or academic challenges that hinder their success in the educational setting. This position involves collaboration with parents, educators, and community resources to create a supportive environment conducive to positive school experiences and healthy development.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate and identify learning and behavioral challenges, considering environmental factors affecting student performance.
  • Assess and, when feasible, address social-emotional and cultural factors that may adversely impact a child's educational success.
  • Engage parents as essential partners in the educational journey, providing updates on student progress and maintaining open lines of communication.
  • Facilitate academic discussions with parents regarding student promotion and progress.
  • Provide individual and group counseling sessions for students.
  • Consult with school staff and parents on the developmental needs of students.
  • Collaborate with mental health professionals and special education staff to support student needs.
  • Conduct mandatory training sessions for school personnel on child welfare topics.
  • Advocate for students and families facing challenges that affect educational outcomes.
  • Coordinate with external agencies and organizations to foster positive changes for students and their families.
  • Monitor and enhance the school climate to ensure a nurturing environment for all students.
  • Participate in Crisis Intervention Teams as needed.
  • Offer group counseling and educational workshops for parents on relevant topics such as parenting strategies and stress management.

Compensation Transparency: The salary range for this position is $62,500 - $98,000. The offered salary may vary within this range based on qualifications, experience, and other relevant factors.

Qualifications:

  • New York State Certification in School Counseling is required.
  • A Master's Degree in School Counseling is required.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills are essential.
  • Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Capability to effectively interact with students, parents, and school personnel at all levels.
  • Experience liaising with community organizations.
  • Proven strategies for managing student behavior and enhancing the school environment.
