Position Overview: This part-time role focuses on providing educational services to students with visual impairments. The position is available in various locations, ensuring flexibility and accessibility for both educators and students.

Classification: EdLogical

Employment Status: Non-Exempt

Compensation: $45.00 to $55.00 per hour

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assess students using appropriate testing methods to evaluate their visual functioning, competencies, and needs across various developmental areas.
  • Develop individualized education plans (IEPs) with measurable goals based on assessments and knowledge of child development.
  • Create a supportive learning environment.
  • Provide direct instruction in specialized skills, including braille literacy, orientation and mobility, and other essential skills.
  • Support students in integrating into mainstream educational settings.
  • Facilitate communication skills regarding their disabilities.
  • Make referrals to additional programs and services as necessary.
  • Collaborate with regular classroom teachers to develop and implement curriculum activities aligned with student objectives.
  • Monitor student progress and adapt teaching strategies accordingly.
  • Maintain accurate records and prepare daily lesson plans.
  • Utilize diverse teaching materials and techniques.
  • Participate in required meetings and adhere to state regulations.
  • Fulfill additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
  • California Teaching Credential for visually impaired programs.
  • Proficiency in specialized techniques for working with visually impaired students.
  • Knowledge of assistive technology for visual impairments.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to work collaboratively.
  • First Aid and CPR certification within six months of employment.
Desirable Attributes:
  • Experience with children with visual impairments.
  • Background in teaching students with severe disabilities.
  • Experience in general education settings.
  • Ability to communicate in sign language.
  • Bilingual skills.
Work Environment:
  • Occasional exposure to environmental factors.
  • Physical demands include frequent movement and the ability to lift and carry.
  • Must possess normal vision and hearing capabilities.
