Role Purpose: This part-time role focuses on providing educational services to students with visual impairments. The position is flexible and can be performed in various educational settings.

Classification: EdLogical

Compensation: $45.00 to $55.00 per hour

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assess students using appropriate tests to evaluate their visual functioning and educational needs.
  • Develop individualized education plans (IEPs) with measurable goals based on assessments and child development principles.
  • Create a supportive learning environment.
  • Directly instruct students in specialized skills, including braille, orientation and mobility, and visual efficiency.
  • Support students in integrating into mainstream educational settings.
  • Teach students to articulate their disabilities effectively.
  • Refer students to additional programs and services as needed.
  • Collaborate with regular classroom teachers to develop and implement curriculum activities aligned with student objectives.
  • Monitor student progress and adapt teaching strategies accordingly.
  • Maintain accurate records and prepare daily lesson plans.
  • Utilize diverse teaching materials and methods.
  • Participate in staff meetings and adhere to regulatory compliance.
  • Perform duties in various educational environments as required.
  • Exhibit physical and emotional stamina necessary for the role.
  • Demonstrate manual dexterity and communication skills essential for effective teaching.
  • Fulfill other assigned responsibilities as needed.

Qualifications:

Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
  • California Teaching Credential for visually impaired programs.
  • Expertise in techniques for working with visually impaired students, including braille and assistive technology.
  • Background in orientation and mobility.
  • Knowledge of Braille technology and software.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • First Aid and CPR certification within six months of hire.

Skills:
  • Valid California driver's license and insurability.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with diverse groups.
  • Proficiency in English, both oral and written.
  • Clearance through DOJ/FBI Live Scan and TB testing.
  • Pro-Act, CPI, or CPR certification is advantageous.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with children with visual impairments from birth to 21 years.
  • Experience with students with severe disabilities.
  • Teaching experience in general education settings.
  • Ability to communicate in Sign Language.
  • Bilingual skills are a plus.

Work Environment:
  • Occasional exposure to environmental allergens.
  • Physical demands include frequent movement and lifting of up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to see and hear within normal ranges, with or without correction.
  • Moderate to high noise levels in the work environment.
