Position Overview: This part-time role focuses on providing specialized educational services to students with visual impairments. The position is designed to cater to the needs of students in various educational settings.

Classification: EdLogical

Employment Status: Non-Exempt

Compensation: $45.00 to $55.00 per hour

Job Type: Part-Time

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assess students using appropriate tests to evaluate their visual functioning, competencies, and needs across various developmental areas.
  • Develop Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) with measurable goals based on assessments and knowledge of child development.
  • Create a supportive learning environment.
  • Provide direct instruction in specialized skills, including braille, orientation and mobility, and other essential techniques.
  • Assist in determining student eligibility for regular education placement.
  • Facilitate the integration of students into mainstream educational programs.
  • Teach students to articulate their disabilities effectively.
  • Refer students to additional programs and services as needed.
  • Collaborate with regular classroom teachers to develop and implement relevant curriculum activities.
  • Monitor student progress and adjust teaching strategies accordingly.
  • Maintain accurate records and prepare daily lesson plans.
  • Utilize diverse teaching materials and methods.
  • Participate in required meetings and adhere to state regulations.
  • Fulfill duties in various educational settings as required.
  • Exhibit the physical and emotional stamina necessary for the role.
  • Perform other assigned duties as needed.

  • California Teaching Credential for visually impaired programs.

  • Knowledge of assistive technology for visual impairments.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • First Aid and CPR certification within six months of hire.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with children with visual impairments from birth to 21 years.
  • Experience with children with severe disabilities.
  • Teaching experience in general education settings.
  • Ability to communicate in Sign Language.
  • Bilingual skills.
Work Environment:
  • Occasional exposure to environmental factors.
  • Physical demands include frequent movement and the ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Must possess normal hearing and vision capabilities.
