Position Overview: We are seeking a part-time educator to provide specialized services to students with visual impairments. This role is crucial in fostering an inclusive learning environment for visually impaired students in various educational settings.

Classification: EdLogical

Compensation: $45.00 to $55.00 per hour

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assess students using appropriate evaluation methods to identify their visual functioning levels and educational needs.
  • Develop Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) with measurable goals based on assessments and knowledge of child development.
  • Create a supportive and engaging learning environment.
  • Provide direct instruction in specialized skills, including braille literacy, orientation and mobility, and other essential skills.
  • Facilitate the integration of students into mainstream educational settings when appropriate.
  • Teach students to articulate their disabilities effectively.
  • Collaborate with regular classroom teachers to enhance curriculum activities aligned with student objectives.
  • Monitor student progress and adapt teaching strategies as necessary.
  • Maintain accurate records and prepare daily lesson plans.
  • Participate in meetings and comply with educational regulations and policies.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
  • California Teaching Credential for visually impaired programs.
  • Expertise in techniques for supporting visually impaired students, including braille and assistive technology.
  • Background in orientation and mobility.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to communicate effectively.
  • First Aid and CPR certification within six months of hire.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience working with children with visual impairments.
  • Experience in general education settings.
  • Ability to communicate in sign language or bilingual skills.
Work Environment:
  • May involve exposure to various environmental factors.
  • Requires physical stamina and mobility to perform duties effectively.
