Our mission is to support charter schools and school districts in effectively managing the intricacies of Special Education. Our team comprises highly qualified educators and clinicians who possess a deep understanding of the operational, administrative, and financial aspects of program development and service delivery.

Role Purpose: The primary aim of this role is to offer educational services to students with visual impairments. This is a part-time position serving various locations.

Classification: EdLogical

Employment Status: Non-Exempt

Compensation: $45.00 to $55.00 per hour

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assess students using appropriate testing methods to evaluate their visual functioning, competencies, and needs across various domains.
  • Develop tailored Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) with specific, measurable goals based on assessments and developmental knowledge.
  • Create a supportive learning environment.
  • Directly instruct students in specialized skills, including braille literacy, orientation and mobility, and other essential techniques.
  • Assist in determining eligibility for regular education placements.
  • Facilitate student integration into mainstream educational settings.
  • Teach students to articulate their disabilities effectively.
  • Refer students to additional programs and services as needed.
  • Provide guidance and resources to regular classroom teachers and develop curriculum activities aligned with student objectives.
  • Monitor student progress and adapt teaching strategies accordingly.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation.
  • Prepare daily lesson plans and schedules.
  • Utilize diverse teaching materials and methods.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and attend required meetings.
  • Work in various educational settings and adhere to relevant policies and regulations.
  • Exhibit physical and emotional stamina to fulfill job responsibilities.
  • Demonstrate manual dexterity and physical mobility to engage in classroom activities.

Qualifications:

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
  • California Teaching Credential for visually impaired programs.
  • Expertise in specialized techniques for visually impaired education.
  • Background in orientation and mobility training.
  • Knowledge of assistive technology for visually impaired students.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • First Aid and CPR certification within six months of hire.

Skills and Abilities:
  • Possess a valid California driver's license and be insurable.
  • Build cooperative relationships with staff and the public.
  • Communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing.
  • Pass background checks as required.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with children with visual impairments.
  • Experience with children with severe disabilities.
  • Teaching experience in general education settings.
  • Ability to use Sign Language.
  • Bilingual skills.

Work Environment:
  • Occasional exposure to environmental factors.
  • Physical demands include lifting, standing, and moving.
  • Must be able to see and hear within normal ranges.
