Educational Support Specialist - San Jacinto College

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assists in crafting educational programs and providing engaging and developmentally suitable activities that cater to the growth of each child.
  • Monitors and documents children's progress through anecdotal records, evaluates developmental milestones, and aids in formulating personalized lesson plans to address individual needs.
  • Utilizes effective verbal and written communication to relay important information to parents, students, and colleagues.
  • Collaborates with the Child Development/Early Childhood Education Department to enhance educational outcomes.
Additional Responsibilities:
  • Ensures a secure environment through daily assessments of classrooms and play areas.
  • Conducts inventory and identifies essential materials and supplies for educational settings.
  • Steps in to fulfill teaching duties as required.
  • Participates in community events to foster partnerships with children and families.
  • Performs other assigned tasks as necessary.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Understanding of child development theories and practices in line with the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC).
  • Familiarity with Developmentally Appropriate Practices (DAP).
  • Awareness of Texas child care minimum standards.
  • Knowledge of the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) for children entering public education.
  • Insight into community resources available to support children and families.
  • Comprehension of anti-bias curriculum and multicultural education.
  • Ability to embody the values of the institution.
  • Capacity to pass a background check with fingerprint identification and a TB test.
  • Skill in preparing individualized lesson plans that cater to the developmental needs of each child across all areas of growth, including essential academic knowledge and skills.
  • Aptitude for building and maintaining rapport with parents and students through counseling, consulting, and educational efforts.
  • Competence in creating a welcoming environment that encourages collaboration between the educational institution and families.
Required Education:
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
Preferred Education:
  • Associate of Applied Science (AAS) or Associate of Arts (AA) in Early Childhood or a related field.
Required Experience:
  • Minimum of one year of experience in an early childhood environment.
Preferred Experience:
  • At least two years of experience in an early childhood setting.
Required Certifications (to be obtained within the first two weeks of employment):
  • Current Adult, Child, and Pediatric AED/CPR/First Aid Certification.
  • Food Handler Certification.
Note: The responsibilities of this position necessitate a physical presence at the designated work location during regular operations with limited or no opportunity for remote work arrangements.
