Position Overview

The Senior Audit Specialist plays a pivotal role within the Audit & Advisory Services team at the University of California, San Francisco, delivering impartial and thorough evaluations of the organization's control systems while advocating for enhancements in internal controls and operational processes within the progressive environment of UCSF Health.

Under the guidance of the Senior Manager, the Senior Audit Specialist is tasked with executing comprehensive audits that cover intricate financial, compliance, information systems, advisory, and investigative assessments. This includes reviews of revenue cycle operations, professional and hospital billing, as well as adherence to regulatory standards. The role demands the application of sound judgment in selecting appropriate methodologies, techniques, and criteria for formulating audit conclusions. Typically, this position operates with a high level of oversight on audit projects, receiving general direction on more complex assignments. Additionally, the Senior Audit Specialist is responsible for mentoring and providing guidance to junior audit staff.

This role involves articulating the outcomes of completed audits and proposing actionable recommendations aimed at enhancing operational efficiency, effectiveness, and fortifying internal control systems. The Senior Audit Specialist fosters open communication with client operating and management teams to facilitate information exchange and collaborate on strategies to address identified control deficiencies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Evaluate organizational and operational risks in designated review areas.
  • Design and develop audit programs tailored to specific needs.
  • Conduct fieldwork, prepare working papers, and draft comprehensive reports.
  • Monitor and follow up on management's corrective actions in line with professional auditing standards.
  • While primarily focused on UCSF Health and UCSF Benioff Children's Hospitals, the role may involve projects across other campus sectors.

Compensation and Benefits

The compensation for this position is competitive, with a salary range of $94,400 - $201,800 (Annual Rate). The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals in accordance with UC policy.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience/training.
  • Professional auditing or accounting certification such as CIA, CPA, CISA, CFE, CHIAP, or CHC.
  • A minimum of 5 years of recent internal audit experience, including 1-3 years in healthcare auditing.
  • In-depth knowledge of auditing principles, internal control systems, and professional auditing standards.
  • Comprehensive understanding of finance, accounting, business operations, and healthcare regulations.
  • Advanced analytical skills for conducting assessments and formulating recommendations.
  • Proficient in applying relevant policies and practices during audit assignments.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills for presenting sensitive information effectively.
  • Strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks and adapt to changing priorities.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in a related field.
  • Specialized certifications in Healthcare, Sponsored Research, or Compliance.
  • Proven problem-solving and analytical capabilities, with proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience in auditing within large research universities or academic medical centers.
  • Familiarity with enterprise software and relational databases, including data analytics tools like ACL or IDEA.
