Position Summary:
We are currently in search of a Senior Pastry Chef to join our team at McMurdo Station. In this role, you will be instrumental in creating high-quality, large-scale baked goods, including breads, desserts, and pastries, as directed by the Sous Chef (Bakery) or Food Service Supervisor.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Act as the shift leader in the absence of the Sous Chef (Bakery), while performing all other duties under their supervision.
  • Prepare all assigned menu items for primary and satellite locations, ensuring adherence to proper baking techniques and maintaining the quality of taste and presentation.
  • Label and date food items accurately and utilize leftovers efficiently.
  • Follow standardized recipes and develop high-volume recipes as required.
  • Adhere to the Standard Operating Procedures and responsibilities of the food services department.
  • Maintain sanitation standards in work areas, cold and hot storage, and service areas.
  • Utilize and clean equipment and tools in a timely manner.
  • Comply with all safety and sanitation standards in kitchen and service areas.
  • Coordinate with Stewards for the timely transfer of dirty pots to the washing area.
  • Exhibit leadership qualities, effective communication, and organizational skills.
  • Work collaboratively within a diverse team environment.
  • Demonstrate self-motivation in physically demanding and unique working conditions.
  • Maintain flexibility and a positive attitude in a dynamic, fast-paced setting.
  • Support the Infrastructure and Operations Division metrics as directed by the supervisor.
  • Contribute to the achievement of ASC metrics through your work activities.
  • Comply with all Environmental Health & Safety and Quality Assurance requirements.
  • Strive to meet ASC goals and contractual commitments.
  • Be prepared to stand for extended periods, up to 12 hours daily.
  • Maintain a safe workplace and prioritize safety in all activities.
  • Lift up to the maximum safety regulation limit safely.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Current ServSafe Food Handler certification required prior to deployment.
  • Valid driver's license and U.S. Passport are necessary.
Experience:
  • Minimum of two years of experience in baking a wide variety of products in a commercial environment.
  • Preferred experience in high-volume bread baking.
  • Previous experience in Food Services in Antarctica may substitute for minimum experience.
Additional Information:
  • U.S. citizenship or permanent residency is required.
  • Successful completion of a Tier 1 - Elevated Background Investigation (EBI) is a prerequisite for employment.
