Position Overview

This role is classified as a Temporary Provisional (TPV) position, exempt from the competitive Civil Service examination process. The selected candidate will serve at the discretion of the Department Head and will be subject to future examination processes for permanent appointment.

Role Responsibilities

As the Institutional Police Lieutenant, you will oversee the comprehensive operations of the law enforcement program within the Community College District. Reporting to the Chief of Police, you will perform supervisory and law enforcement duties, ensuring the safety and security of the campus community.

Key Duties Include:

  1. Supervising all assigned personnel and ensuring the enforcement of laws and regulations within the jurisdiction.
  2. Assisting the Chief of Police and acting as the temporary head of the Police Department in their absence.
  3. Collaborating with campus administration, faculty, and local public safety agencies to implement policies and procedures.
  4. Planning, assigning, and coordinating the activities of law enforcement personnel.
  5. Directing the enforcement of applicable laws and institutional security regulations.
  6. Selecting, supervising, and evaluating security staff, addressing complaints, and conducting training.
  7. Reviewing security reports and statistical data to identify crime patterns and implement corrective actions.
  8. Preparing the departmental budget and managing various operational programs.
  9. Representing the department in court proceedings as necessary.
  10. Coordinating compliance with the Clery Act and managing campus security programs.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in police science, criminology, public administration, or a related field.
- Two years of progressive law enforcement leadership experience and four years as a police officer or equivalent.

Desirable Skills:
- Knowledge of law enforcement principles and practices.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in computer applications relevant to law enforcement operations.
