Campus Safety Coordinator

Under supervision, this role is tasked with ensuring the safety and security of all members of the college community. This includes adherence to established policies and procedures through vigilance, reporting issues, safeguarding the community and its assets, and preventing incidents via effective planning and resource management. Please note that a successful completion of a background check is required for this position.
PRIMARY DUTIES:
Customer Service/Compliance - 35% Enforces adherence to policies and procedures as outlined in the Staff Handbook and Public Safety Policy and Procedure Addendum. Responds to service requests and addresses both phone and in-person inquiries for assistance.
Maintains detailed documentation including incident reports, injury logs, daily activity records, and sign-in sheets, capturing data such as property damage, unusual events, and equipment malfunctions.
Verifies identification to ensure that only authorized individuals gain access and monitors departing personnel to prevent theft.
Identifies safety concerns and communicates potential threats and risk factors.
ID and Access System Management - 20% Processes identification and access cards, assisting in the maintenance of records for outgoing cards and current inventory to ensure the system operates effectively and to mitigate loss or damage from misuse.
Patrol Responsibilities - 45% Conducts regular patrols of the property, inspecting buildings and grounds to assess security and ensure all entry points are secure.
Reports any irregularities such as fire hazards or utility problems and follows established protocols for responding to emergencies, disasters, or criminal activities.
Documents violations of rules, such as trespassing or excessive noise, and takes appropriate action against individuals engaging in suspicious or unlawful behavior.
Provides safety escorts for members of the college community within designated areas.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Must be able to read, write, and speak fluent English; effectively interpret and apply policies and procedures in dynamic situations.
Ability to follow written and verbal instructions, complete tasks accurately and timely; identify and resolve issues promptly; maintain composure under pressure and exercise sound judgment, even in challenging situations.
First aid or CPR certification, professional security credentials, and proficiency in foreign languages are advantageous. Previous experience in a public safety or security role within an academic or professional setting is preferred.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
This position requires shift work, which may include daytime, evening, or weekend hours. The role involves outdoor work.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Must be capable of standing and walking for extended periods.
To maintain the safety of the community, the college encourages all staff, faculty, and students on campus to be fully vaccinated, including receiving a booster shot if eligible.
Compliance with campus Covid-19 protocols is essential.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:
The hourly wage for Day and Swing shifts is $21, while the Graveyard shift offers a 20% increase from the base rate.
The college provides a comprehensive benefits package, including a selection of five medical plans, generous holiday, sick, and vacation time, a retirement matching program, and tuition remission.
The college covers an average of 91% of the medical plan cost for employees and an average of 82% for those with dependents.

WORK SCHEDULE:
California College of the Arts considers a full-time work week to be 37.5 hours; Public Safety operates on a 40-hour work week.
