Position Overview

Summary: This role acts as a vital connection between Aquinas College and prospective undergraduate candidates. In line with our Strategic Plan 2030, the Admissions Counselor will be an integral part of a student-focused Undergraduate Admissions Office, dedicated to assisting students and families throughout the recruitment journey.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Identify potential candidates and enhance application rates from a designated region using diverse recruitment techniques, including evening and weekend outreach.
  • Strategically organize and manage recruitment efforts within the assigned territory through various communication methods, personal meetings, and collaboration with alumni and faculty.
  • Act as a liaison between the Undergraduate Admissions Office and other departments on campus as necessary.
  • Assess and review applications for completeness, making decisions regarding admissions and scholarships.
  • Coordinate and conduct high school visits and participate in college fairs within the assigned area, which may encompass major urban centers.
  • Prepare travel plans over an average ten-week period within the designated territory, ensuring timely submission of travel and expense reports.
  • Exhibit comprehensive knowledge of all student services, including admissions processes, financial aid, scholarships, academic offerings, and campus life.
  • Provide educational sessions for prospective students and families during individual appointments and group presentations, both on and off campus.
  • Participate in all on-campus recruitment activities, including Information Sessions, Open Houses, and various special initiatives.
  • Attend off-campus recruitment events as needed, such as awards nights and presentations on admissions topics.
  • Support the execution of additional admissions functions as required.
  • Assist in recruiting nursing, international, dual enrollment, and transfer students.
  • Work on designated Saturdays to accommodate students who cannot visit during weekdays.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and tracking of recruitment activities using CRM tools.
  • Follow up on all forms of communication, including emails and messages.
  • Attend all admissions staff meetings and report on assigned projects and territories.
  • Stay informed about trends in higher education and developments within the college.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution or two years of college coupled with two years of direct admissions experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, and effectively engage with students and their families, with experience as a student ambassador or tour guide being advantageous.
  • Experience working with diverse populations.
  • Self-motivated with strong oral and written communication skills, including public speaking.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with various stakeholders, including high school counselors and college staff.
  • Proficient in using databases for tracking and reporting; familiarity with CRM and SIS systems is preferred.
  • Knowledge of marketing principles and experience with social media is beneficial.
  • Willingness to go beyond assigned duties to support the admissions team's objectives.
  • Commitment to collaboration and innovative problem-solving.
  • Valid Driver's License and ability to travel as required.
  • Flexibility to work unconventional hours, including weekends and evenings.
  • Ability to thrive in a dynamic team environment.
  • Capability to perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous recruiting experience.
  • Familiarity with the metro Detroit and/or Chicagoland areas.

Work Environment:

  • Ability to function effectively in a busy environment with frequent interruptions.
  • Regular use of computer and telephone.
  • Occasional lifting may be required.
