This role acts as a vital connection between Aquinas College and potential undergraduate students. In alignment with our Strategic Plan 2030, the Admissions Counselor will contribute to a student-focused Undergraduate Admissions Office dedicated to assisting students and families throughout the recruitment journey. The position involves representing the College by effectively communicating academic offerings and the enrollment process, including admission and financial aid protocols, to various student demographics.
Key Responsibilities:The Admissions Counselor will:
- Generate interest and facilitate application submissions from a designated region using diverse recruitment strategies, including evening and weekend outreach.
- Strategically plan and manage recruitment efforts within the assigned territory through various outreach methods, including individual meetings, alumni engagement, and faculty/staff collaboration.
- Act as a liaison between the Undergraduate Admissions Office and other campus departments as necessary.
- Review and assess applications for completeness, making decisions regarding admission and scholarship opportunities.
- Coordinate and conduct high school visits and participate in college fairs within the assigned territory, which may encompass major urban areas.
- Prepare and monitor travel plans over an average ten-week period within the designated territory, submitting travel and expense reports weekly.
- Exhibit comprehensive knowledge of available student services, including the admissions process, financial aid, scholarships, academic programs, and campus life.
- Educate prospective students and their families during individual appointments on campus, as well as through group presentations both on and off campus.
- Participate in all on-campus recruitment events, including Information Sessions, Open Houses, and various special initiatives.
- Attend off-campus recruitment events as needed, such as senior awards nights and college decision-making presentations.
- Assist in the successful execution of additional admission-related functions as required.
- Support staff in recruiting nursing, international, dual enrollment, and transfer students.
- Work on assigned Saturdays to accommodate students who cannot visit during the week.
- Maintain documentation and track territory analytics using a CRM tool.
- Follow up on all forms of correspondence, including emails and texts.
- Attend all admissions staff meetings and report on assigned projects and territory status.
- Stay informed about trends in higher education and college-wide developments.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Applicants must possess:
- A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution or two years of college coupled with two years of direct admissions experience.
- Experience demonstrating effective planning, organization, and interaction with students and families, with prior roles as a student ambassador or tour guide being advantageous.
- Experience working with diverse populations.
- Proven self-motivation and strong oral and written communication skills, including public speaking.
- The ability to effectively communicate with various stakeholders, including high school counselors, faculty, and alumni.
- Proficiency in database management, including tracking and reporting data, with experience in CRM and SIS systems preferred.
- Knowledge of marketing principles and experience with social media.
- A willingness to adapt beyond prescribed roles to support the admissions team's objectives.
- A commitment to collaboration and innovative problem-solving.
- A valid Driver's License and the ability to travel within specified states.
- The flexibility to work unconventional hours, including weekends and evenings.
- The capability to thrive in a dynamic team environment.
- The ability to perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Previous recruiting experience.
- Familiarity with the metro Detroit and/or Chicagoland areas.
- Ability to function effectively in a busy environment with frequent interruptions.
- Regular use of computers and telephones.
- Occasional lifting may be required.
